Duties Perform dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to promote healthy smiles. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental x-ray equipment, ensuring accuracy and patient safety. Assess patient vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to monitor overall health status. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to enhance their dental health. Assist the dentist during procedures through chairside assisting, ensuring smooth workflow with four-handed dentistry techniques. Review and update medical records and electronic health records (EHR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix to maintain accurate documentation. Maintain infection prevention protocols by adhering to healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including aseptic techniques and infection control procedures. Explain dental terminology clearly to patients, ensuring they understand their treatment plans and care instructions. Support the management of medical imaging processes, including taking intraoral and extraoral X-rays while maintaining patient comfort. Uphold HIPAA compliance by maintaining patient confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive medical records at all times. Skills Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and record management. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and general dentistry procedures. Experience with pediatric dentistry practices and providing care tailored to pediatric patients (pediatrics). Expertise in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, medical coding, and documentation review. Familiarity with healthcare infection prevention standards, aseptic techniques, and infection control practices within a dental setting. Ability to communicate effectively with clients of all ages, demonstrating excellent client communication skills. Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently while ensuring HIPAA compliance. Understanding of medical imaging procedures related to dentistry and the operation of dental equipment safely. Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments accurately while providing compassionate patient care in a fast-paced environment.
