Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs and medical history reviews, to ensure safe and effective treatment. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental x-ray equipment, ensuring proper technique and patient safety. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health. Assist the dentist during procedures with chairside support, including handling dental instruments and managing patient comfort. Maintain accurate and detailed electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like Denticon or Dentrix), ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality. Follow infection prevention protocols using aseptic techniques to uphold the highest standards of infection control in the dental office. Monitor and record medical and dental information accurately, including documentation review and medical coding for billing purposes. Ensure all dental equipment is properly maintained, sterilized, and ready for daily use while adhering to healthcare infection prevention standards. Communicate effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatric dentistry patients, providing a positive experience that encourages ongoing care. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting. Proven experience working in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments; previous dental office experience is highly preferred. Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for managing patient records and documentation review. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, anatomy, and medical records management. Skilled in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, medical imaging, and X-ray procedures. Familiarity with infection prevention management practices, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control standards. Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively about their oral health needs. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques when necessary.
