Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Part-Time Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team on Monday's and Friday's. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in clinical assisting, dental procedures, and patient care, with a focus on supporting general dentistry and specialized treatments such as prosthodontics and oral surgery. The EFDA will be responsible for assisting the dentist during procedures, managing dental instruments, and ensuring compliance with infection control protocols. Responsibilities Assist the dentist during various procedures including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and oral surgery treatments with precision and professionalism. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention management policies. Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging systems such as Dental X-ray and 3D scanners, ensuring accurate positioning and patient comfort. Manage patient records efficiently within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations for confidentiality. Perform chairside assisting duties including taking vital signs, medical history updates, and explaining procedures to patients to foster a positive experience. Support dental sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques to uphold the highest standards of infection control. Assist with dental instrument processing, ensuring all tools are properly cleaned, sterilized, and stored according to clinical guidelines. Collaborate seamlessly with the dental team to deliver exceptional patient care across general dentistry services, including pediatric dentistry when applicable. Maintain knowledge of dental terminology, medical documentation standards, and clinical confidentiality policies to ensure compliance at all times. Skills Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for efficient patient management and record keeping. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical documentation requirements to safeguard patient information. Experience with dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other diagnostic tools used in modern dental practices. Knowledge of dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, and aseptic techniques essential for clinical safety. Skilled in chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry to optimize workflow during procedures. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices and the ability to manage young patients compassionately. Ability to interpret dental terminology accurately while communicating effectively with patients and team members. Excellent organizational skills for managing medical records, medical imaging files, and patient data efficiently. Strong attention to detail in performing vital signs assessments and supporting comprehensive patient care plans.
