Position:

The Chief Dental Officer (CDO) is responsible for enterprise-wide clinical governance at Sonrisas Dental Health. This role owns clinical quality, safety, compliance, provider performance standards, and accreditation readiness, ensuring Sonrisas operates in alignment with its bylaws, funder expectations, and safety-net best practices. Fundamental Duties Include (But Are Not Limited To): Clinical Governance & Quality Establish, maintain, and enforce clinical standards, policies, procedures, SOPs, and workflows Lead clinical quality assurance, peer review, and risk management activities Ensure compliance with state, federal, insurance requirements Periodically update the Clinical Procedures and Policy Manual in collaboration with the CEO Maintain ongoing readiness for audits, site visits, and funder reviews, and lead corrective action planning when gaps areidentified Serve as the clinical authority for adverse events, audits, complaints, and escalations Oversee the dental quality improvement (QI) program Ensure use of data, dashboards, and performance metrics to drive continuous quality improvement. May delegate operational and documentation responsibilities to qualified staff while retaining accountability for program oversight and outcomes. Regulatory, Licensure & Facility Compliance Oversee clinical regulatory compliance Ensure required reports, filings, renewals, and documentation are completed accurately and on time Partner with internal teams and external consultants as needed to maintain compliance and address deficiencies Oversee clinical review and resolution of patient complaints, grievances, and adverse clinical events, includingdocumentation and corrective action as required Provider Oversight & Performance Set clinical productivity, documentation, supervision, and performance expectations Manage provider credentialing, privileging, licensure, and compliance Provide mentorship and escalation guidance to Supervising Dentists and Clinic Managers Review clinic-level clinical KPIs and oversee corrective action plans as needed Staff Management Hire, onboard, train, and supervise staff Conduct performance management, coaching, and corrective actions Ensure compliance with HR policies, timekeeping, and attendance Clinical Strategy & Reporting Partner with the CEO on clinical sustainability, capacity planning, and growth strategy Support clinical components of grants, contracts, and funder reporting Prepare and present required clinical reports to the CEO and Board of Directors as requested Lead and participate in clinical staff meetings to reinforce clinical standards, regulatory compliance, qualityimprovement, and patient safety expectations Represent Sonrisas in external clinical partnerships, collaborations, and meetings as appropriate Collaborate with finance and billing leadership to ensure clinical workflows support accurate documentation, coding, and reimbursement Lead clinical program development, service expansion, and innovation to improve access, care quality, and financial sustainability. Direct Patient Care Provide direct patient care approximately 0.6 FTE and as needed to support staffing coverage Designated Clinical Officer Roles & Responsibilities The CDO serves as the executive lead for clinical quality, infection prevention, patient safety, credentialing, radiation safety, and HIPAA compliance for dental operations. Desired Experience and Qualifications DDS or DMD licensed in California and in good standing MBA/MPH preferred Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience Experience in safety-net, community health center, or Medi-Cal populations strongly preferred.
