- Full-time Sonoma Valley Community Health Center (SVCHC) is a non-profit, federally qualified health center (FQHC) that opened in 1992 as a free-standing primary health care clinic.
SVCHC began as a grassroots effort to address the lack of access and disparities of health care for the uninsured and underserved in Sonoma Valley. Since its inception, we have grown in capacity to serve Medi-Cal, insured, underinsured, private insurance, private pay patients, and provide sliding scale fees for those in need. In addition to medical services, we offer behavioral health, an in-house phlebotomy service, dental clinic, optometry clinic, pharmacy services, and certified bilingual enrollment professionals to help determine eligibility and enrollment options. We believe in providing access to quality healthcare to all of our neighbors in Sonoma Valley. Sonoma Valley Community Health Center is seeking a Dental Director with a passion for community care to continue a legacy of quality care in the valley. Job Summary We are seeking a highly qualified and dynamic Dental Director to lead our Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) dental program. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in clinical dentistry and healthcare leadership, with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient care within a community-focused environment. As Dental Director, you will oversee clinical operations, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, and foster a collaborative team dedicated to improving oral health outcomes. Responsibilities Provide clinical oversight and leadership for all dental services, ensuring high-quality patient care aligned with best practices. Supervise dental staff, including dentists, hygienists, and registered dental assistants, promoting professional development and team cohesion. Develop and implement clinical protocols that adhere to state healthcare regulations, HIPAA standards, and infection control guidelines. Oversee the integration of dental software systems such as Epic, Dexis, or similar platforms for efficient medical documentation and record management. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing healthcare diagnosis, treatment procedures, and patient privacy. Collaborate with administrative staff to optimize clinic operations, manage budgets, and improve patient access and satisfaction. Maintain expertise in dental terminology, procedures such as fillings, crowns, extractions, and dentures to guide clinical decision-making. Promote infection control practices using aseptic techniques and proper sterilization methods to ensure patient safety. Support community outreach initiatives focused on oral health education and prevention strategies for diverse populations including pediatrics. Requirements Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution. Valid state dental license with eligibility for licensure in the service region. Proven experience in general dentistry with additional expertise in pediatric dentistry preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing dental teams within a healthcare setting or dental clinic environment. Proficiency with electronic health records systems such as Epic and Dexis. Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and state healthcare policies affecting dental practice operations. Excellent understanding of medical documentation standards and medical terminology relevant to dentistry. Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments using healthcare diagnosis techniques while maintaining a compassionate approach to patient care. Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice environments.
