0700-1130 (half day, no lunch break)

Not to exceed 40 hours per week. No on-call required. Schedule changes communicated at least 30 calendar days in advance.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Dentist performs a full range of professional dental tasks at Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center. This includes treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases and health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. The position provides care to service members, veterans, and their families under a personal services arrangement with day-to-day supervision comparable to military and civil service dental personnel.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS

Degree:

Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from an accredited dental school approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA)

Licensure:

Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a dentist in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory

Experience:

Minimum one (1) year full-time practice in dentistry OR recent graduate (within 1 year) of an accredited post-graduate dentistry training program

Certifications:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross; certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75

DUTIES

• Restore simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed materials. Take mouth impressions for crowns, jackets, dentures, and bridges; fit and insert finished appliances.
  
• Perform corrective and restorative measures on difficult cases using extensive professional knowledge. Manage dento-alveolar surgery practice including exodontia, biopsy of intraoral lesions, and pre-prosthetic surgery. Evaluate and manage oral surgery complications including dental infections and cellulitis. Enter workload production data into reporting system
  
• Performs a full range of professional dental tasks including treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative or preventive measures such as single and multiple teeth extractions, restoration of simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed Exhibit 5, Version 1.

0 (4 Oct 22) material, taking mouth impressions for crowns, jackets, dentures and bridges and fitting and inserting the finished appliances. Ensures correct patient identification through the use of at least two unique patient identifiers and perform site verification, as required. Enters workload production data into reporting system.

• Comprehensive Dentist.

Performs corrective and restorative measures on difficult cases, using extensive professional knowledge of dentistry; possesses a thorough knowledge and skill level sufficient to diagnose and treat difficult cases with an understanding and knowledge of the relationships and applications of the basic sciences; exhibits advanced skill in handling patients with behavioral problems. Manages a dento-alveolar surgery practice, which would include: exodontia, biopsy of intraoral lesions, pre-prosthetic surgery, evaluation and management of oral surgery complications to include treatment of dental infections, treatment of cellulitis secondary to varying dental etiologies, and evaluation, treatment, and/or referral of oral and maxillofacial trauma cases. Performs endodontic procedures to include, but not limited to: diagnosis of difficult endodontic cases, treatment of the majority of teeth presenting for endodontic treatment, evaluation and retreatment of selected endodontic cases, and management of endodontic complications. Performs a full spectrum of complex restorative procedures to include: operative dentistry plus fixed and removable prosthodontic care inclusive of fabrication of complete and partial dentures, crowns, and bridges
