Job Description
Assistant Dietary ManagerJob Overview We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Assistant Dietary Manager to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this vital role, you will support the Dietary Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Dietary Department within a healthcare or skilled nursing environment. The Assistant Dietary Manager will work closely with the Dietary Manager to ensure residents receive nutritious, safe, and appealing meals that meet their individual nutritional needs while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This position reports directly to the Dietary Manager and serves as a key member of the dietary leadership team, providing operational support and leadership in the Dietary Manager's absence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on residents' quality of life while developing management and clinical nutrition skills within a collaborative healthcare environment. Responsibilities Support the Dietary Manager in the daily operation of the Dietary Department. Report directly to the Dietary Manager and assist with implementing departmental goals and quality improvement initiatives. Assist in managing daily food service operations, including meal preparation, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance. Supervise dietary staff, providing leadership, coaching, training, scheduling assistance, and performance oversight. Collaborate with Registered Dietitians, nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support resident nutritional care plans. Assist with resident dietary assessments, food preference interviews, therapeutic diet implementation, texture modifications, and tube feeding support as directed. Monitor meal service to ensure tray accuracy, therapeutic diet compliance, and resident satisfaction. Assist with food ordering, inventory control, receiving deliveries, and budget management. Ensure compliance with California Title 22 regulations, CMS requirements, food safety standards, HACCP principles, and infection control policies. Maintain accurate dietary documentation using Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems. Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, kitchen audits, survey preparation, and corrective action plans. Educate residents regarding nutrition and healthy food choices when appropriate. Assume departmental leadership responsibilities during the Dietary Manager's absence. Requirements Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, hospital, or assisted living dietary department. Previous supervisory or leadership experience in food service preferred. Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, therapeutic diets, clinical nutrition principles, and dietary regulations. Experience supervising dietary staff in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) documentation systems. Familiarity with tube feeding, texture-modified diets, and specialized therapeutic diets. Knowledge of California Title 22 regulations, CMS requirements, infection control practices, and food service health code compliance. Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Experience with budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and staff scheduling is preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Preferred Qualifications Certified Dietary Manager (CDM®, CFPP®) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Hospitality, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred. Why Join Our Team?
