In this energetic and rewarding position, you will assist in meal preparation, food service, and maintaining a clean and safe dining environment. Your efforts will ensure that residents receive nutritious, well-presented meals tailored to their dietary needs, fostering a positive dining experience. Responsibilities Prepare and serve meals according to dietary guidelines and individual resident requirements, ensuring adherence to safety and sanitation standards. Assist with food production, including portioning, plating, and delivering meals to residents in a timely manner. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, dining areas, and food handling surfaces following food safety protocols. Support the dietary department by organizing supplies, operating kitchen equipment safely, and managing manual handling tasks such as lifting heavy trays or boxes using proper techniques. Work closely with nursing staff to accommodate special dietary needs and restrictions for residents with specific health conditions or allergies. Follow workplace safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), manual handling practices, and safe lifting techniques to prevent injuries. Document meal service activities accurately and report any concerns related to food safety or resident well-being promptly. Requirements Previous experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly preferred. Knowledge of food production, preparation, serving techniques, and sanitation standards aligned with JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) guidelines. Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, dishwashers, mixers, and refrigeration units. Ability to manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Strong understanding of adhering to dietary requirements for various health conditions and working with geriatric patients. Basic math skills for measuring ingredients and portion control. Excellent customer service skills to create a welcoming dining atmosphere for residents. Certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is preferred; willingness to obtain if not already certified. Commitment to workplace safety practices including proper use of PPE, sanitation procedures, and safe lifting practices. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly and stand for extended periods during meal preparation and service.
