Dietary Aide Job:
The Dietary Aide will be responsible for the preparation, cooking, presentation, delivery, and serving of nutritious and healthy food to the residential patients. Experience in food preparation including cooking and understanding of the importance of following all health and sanitary precautions needed for food service is necessary.
POSITION SUMMARY
Cooks and assists with preparation of breakfast and lunch and dinner for residental patients, maintains kitchen cleanliness, and assists or conducts weekly cooking projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist, plan, and supervise weekly cooking/baking projects with patients
- Receives and puts away grocery delivery
- Clean and set tables for patients
- Set up any seasonal decorations, candles, or tablecloths
- Contribute to seasonal menu planning
- Greet residents and assist them to their tables
- Respect patient privacy and confidentiality
- Cooks and assists in preparing meals according to special dietary needs and patient census
- Prepare meals according to individual meal requirements, by precisely measuring meal components, follow established recipes and guidelines to ensure correct temperatures and portion control
- Prepare meals while maintaining an allergen free, safe environment
- Performs meal and snack preparation such as rinsing, peeling, slicing, and dicing fruits and vegetables
- Contribute to seasonal menu planning
- Scrape, stack, prewash, or load dishes, utensils, glassware into the sanitizer as needed, air dry, put away
- Monitor inventory and advise Food Service Manager of inventory needs
- Store, restock, and carefully label food and ingredients in kitchen and pantries. Check for and dispose of expired items. Assist with tracking and reducing waste.
- Follow and maintain all sanitation and safety procedures
- Orderly clean kitchen: adhere to Board of Health requirements and compliance
- Monitor equipment temperatures (refrigerator, freezer, sanitizer)
- Monitor and stock food preparation station
- Assist Dietitian, Registered Dietitians, and Food Services Managers with other duties as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school degree or equivalent required
- Completed courses in an approved Associate Degree Dietetic Technician, accredited undergraduate nutrition program or culinary program preferred
- Basic cooking skills (including ability to prepare Main Entrée)
- Knowledge of food safety required, including understanding of ingredients and handling of food allergies, and accurate weights & measures
- ServSafe Certificate - manager level
- Experience in residential or healthcare facilities
- Interest in teaching others about nutrition/cooking
Language/Communication/Organizational Skills:
- Must demonstrate knowledge of skills necessary for communicating with all ages and diverse cultures
- Fluent in English
- Ability to follow directions, multitask, work as a member of a team, as well as work independently
- Must be able to assess situations, identify issues/problems and prioritize duties.
Mathematical Skills:
Must understand precise cooking measurements.
Reasoning Ability:
Uses personal experience, knowledge, and other outside resources to make logical decisions to solve problems
