Job Description

Overview A Dietary Aide assists with the preparation and serving of meals to residents, ensuring that dietary needs and preferences are met while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. This role requires compassion, attention to detail, and the ability to work well as part of a team.

Meal Preparation and Service:

Assist in the preparation of meals and snacks according to residents' dietary requirements and preferences. Portion and serve food to residents in the dining area or deliver meals to individual rooms as needed.

Food Safety and Hygiene:

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dining area, and equipment. Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food storage, handling, and sanitation procedures. Ensure that all food is labeled and stored correctly to prevent contamination.

Resident Interaction:

Assist residents with eating, as needed, ensuring they receive proper nutrition and hydration. Communicate with residents to understand their dietary preferences and restrictions. Build positive relationships with residents and respond to their requests and concerns promptly.

Collaboration:

Work closely with the dietary team, cooks, and other kitchen staff, to ensure smooth meal service. Participate in menu planning and provide input based on residents' feedback and needs. Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and policies.

Inventory and Supplies:

Take inventory of kitchen supplies and food items, and report shortages to the supervisor. Assist in ordering and receiving food supplies and ensuring they are stored properly.

Physical Requirements:

Be able to easily lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A continuous and consistent demonstrated interest in and knowledge about the elderly and their needs and the competency to meet those needs on a consistent basis. An interest in and willingness to learn and a demonstrated initiative in developing skills in caring for the elderly consistent with the philosophy and policies of the Community. Also, must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to routinely follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, or bend for periods of up to eight hours with breaks as provided for in the employee handbook. Required high school graduation or equivalent. Has work experience of on-line cook in food services, or equivalent, of two (2) years or more. Training and experience have been attained through formal training or on-the-job training in appropriate techniques of resident care including nutritional monitoring and assessment, general nutrition, food production and service, sanitation, safety and management. Good communication skills, verbal and written; English language skills adequate to allow communication with residents and staff, and to understand written and verbal instructions. Compassion for the elderly and sick. Self-motivation.

Pay:

$15.00 - $16.00 per hour
