A dietary aide works in food preparation in healthcare facilities, hospitals or retirement homes. A dietary aide is a primary person responsible for preparing a healthy meal for a resident and being mindful of dietary restrictions, allergies and special concerns. Often a dietary aide will work directly with or for a dietitian to create and administer specific diet plans. Activities that a dietary aide may be required to do could include: Preparing food and serving well-balanced meals to residents and patients Cleaning the kitchen and dining hall Working with a cook, dietary cook or facility manager to plan menus fit for medical and wellness needs Educating patients about nutrition and wellness Abiding by state, federal and facility infection control regulations Monitoring and reporting on resident food intake, such as items, expenses, calories and other nutrition elements
