Job Description

The Food Service Associate will implement a cost-effective menu in conjunction with the Head Start Nutrition Consultant. The Food Service Associate will prepare breakfast and snack for classrooms, divide and sort items for all meals to include lunch.
Job Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
Implement cost effective menus; Shop for breakfast/snack food items; Using basic math skills to prepare food under the guidelines of Department of Public Instruction (DPI)/Child and Adult Food Program; Ensures all meals served meet the current nutritional standards and CACFP meal pattern requirements. Ensures documentation/paperwork such as production records, menus and receipts/PO's are submitted in timely fashion; Ensures that all special diets are met in each classroom and all documentation (production sheets and binders) show current dietary restrictions. Prepare items for snacks and meals; Identifies, monitors, and ensures that reimbursable meals meet requirements; Follow proper sanitation policies for washing food, sanitizing food prep areas, equipment utensils and dishes. Posts planned menus and note any changes or substitutions as required by USDA; Labels and dates food according to Daycare Licensing requirements; Ensures the proper receiving procedures and storage techniques are followed; Assist with classroom clean-up; Perform weekly food inventory; Provide routine cleaning and maintenance of kitchen and equipment; Maintain proper hygiene and dress requirements, i.e. hair nets, disposable aprons and disposable gloves. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, professional development, etc.; Other duties as assigned Qualifications Food Service background or Serv Safe training preferred Participate in the required amount of continuing education to include 4 hours in kitchen sanitation, food handling and nutrition. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to keep records and make reports as needed; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Demonstrate patience, good judgment; resourcefulness and reliability; High School Diploma or GED; Ability to pass criminal background check/fingerprinting and health screening; Valid driver's license, car insurance, and access to transportation to perform job.
