Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments to evaluate nutritional status, medical history, and dietary needs. Provide evidence-based nutrition counseling to support weight management, chronic disease management, and specialized dietary needs such as tube feeding or dietary restrictions. Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals—including physicians, nurses, and therapists—to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal nutritional support. Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems to document assessments, interventions, progress notes, and care plans accurately. Deliver health coaching sessions using motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in making sustainable lifestyle changes. Supervise dietetic interns or junior staff when applicable, fostering professional growth within the dietary department. Manage complex cases involving diagnostic evaluation, nutritional analysis, and medical nutrition therapy (MNT), especially for patients with geriatrics or chronic illnesses. Provide specialized nutrition support such as tube feeding management or parenteral nutrition in hospital or long-term care settings. Stay current with the latest developments in clinical nutrition, physiology knowledge, and best practices to ensure high-quality patient care. Qualifications Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential from an accredited program and current licensure or certification as required by state law. Proven experience working in hospital settings, long-term care facilities, or outpatient clinics with a focus on clinical nutrition and medical nutrition therapy (MNT). Strong knowledge of physiology related to digestion, metabolism, and disease processes affecting nutritional status. Demonstrated experience with dietary department operations and managing complex nutritional cases involving tube feeding or specialized diets. Excellent client communication skills with the ability to motivate change through motivational interviewing techniques. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems for documentation and care coordination purposes. Experience supervising staff or students within a healthcare environment is preferred. Familiarity with chronic disease management programs such as weight loss initiatives or geriatrics-focused care is highly desirable. Ability to perform patient assessments effectively in acute care or long-term care settings while managing multiple priorities efficiently.
