Duties Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine nutritional status and identify dietary needs. Develop and implement individualized care plans that incorporate medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and support chronic disease management. Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients and their families, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive behavioral changes. Monitor patient progress through diagnostic evaluation and adjust nutrition interventions accordingly. Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure cohesive care delivery. Manage nutrition support procedures such as tube feeding and other specialized dietary interventions. Maintain accurate documentation within electronic health records (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Supervise dietetic interns or junior staff members, fostering professional development within the dietary department. Skills Extensive knowledge of physiology related to digestion, metabolism, and chronic disease processes. Proven experience in medical nutrition therapy (MNT), including working with individuals with specific dietary needs such as geriatrics or those in acute care settings. Strong skills in nutrition counseling, client communication, and motivational interviewing techniques. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and patient record management. Experience supervising staff or interns within a clinical or hospital environment. Ability to develop comprehensive care plans that include tube feeding and other nutritional support modalities. Knowledge of weight loss strategies and long-term care nutritional management practices. Demonstrated competence in diagnostic evaluation, nutritional analysis, and dietary assessment tools.
