This position performs its duties primarily on the Kentfield campus; however, there may be occasions when the Director must work from the Indian Valley campus in Novato. So, if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.
POSITION OVERVIEW
College of Marin is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to lead the Nursing Education Department. This pivotal role oversees program operations, curriculum development, and accreditation compliance, ensuring excellence in nursing education aligned with our college's mission and goals. This position offers the opportunity to provide strategic leadership, collaborate across departments, and make a meaningful impact on the future of healthcare education.

Under general direction of the Dean of Workforce Development and Career Technical Education, plans, manages, directs and integrates instruction and operations of the programs, services and activities of the Nursing Education department; oversees education planning and curriculum development in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of the College and Nursing Education department; coordinates academic area, programs and services with other departments; ensures program meets accreditation and Board of Registered Nursing requirements and guidelines; provides responsible and complex professional assistance to the Dean of Workforce Development and CTE in areas of expertise; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING
CHARACTERISTICSThe Director of Nursing is distinguished from other Directors in that the incumbent is an educational administrator responsible for the overall leadership and operations of the Nursing Education Department and its instructional program. Incumbents must meet the Board of Registered Nursing minimum requirements including maintaining a Registered Nursing license. The work involves a wide variety of independent decision making within general policy and regulatory guidelines.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Leads and directs the strategic planning, organization, and evaluation of the Nursing Education department; collaborates with the Dean, faculty, and staff to develop and implement long-term program goals aligned with the College mission; oversees development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of departmental policies, systems, and procedures to ensure achievement of program outcomes and operational standards. Guides and collaborates with academic deans, department chairs, other faculty and staff to develop class schedules and student learning support programs, pursuant to proper course articulation policies and standards, student diversity, student needs, state and local healthcare training standards and regulations, licensing and certification standards; builds, fosters and advances student-centered programs, services, events, outreach and activities that are integrated with division goals and objectives. Represents the Nursing Education program in participatory governance processes and collaborates with the Academic Senate, faculty leadership, and institutional stakeholders on academic planning and program development; provides guidance to, receives, and presents recommendations from Academic Senate and other representative organizations, as applicable, regarding the planning, implementation and review of academic programs, services, activities and related matters. In collaboration with the Dean of Career Education and Workforce Development, directs fiscal planning and budget oversight for the Nursing Education department, including grants and external funding sources; monitors expenditures and ensures alignment with institutional priorities and regulatory requirements; develops financial projections and statistical reports as required; develops multiyear plans for large purchases; approves purchase requests for supplies and equipment; monitors revenue and fee collection; ensures the department's grant funding and partnership-related fiscal matters are handled in accordance with College policies and regulations as well as appropriate state and federal laws and regulations.

Leads the recruitment, supervision, mentorship, and evaluation of faculty and staff; establishes performance expectations, conducts evaluations including clinical instruction oversight, and implements professional development and performance improvement strategies; may participate in grievance hearings and take disciplinary action, up to and including termination, to address performance deficiencies, in accordance with College human resources policies and labor contract agreements.

Cultivates, develops, and sustains strategic partnerships with healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and community agencies to expand clinical education opportunities and program resources, hospitals and other healthcare facilities, community organizations, government agencies, corporations and local businesses; liaises with clinical settings/ partners and utilizes an entrepreneurial approach to expand opportunities for students within an associated nursing program; collaborates with faculty to regularly convene the nursing program advisory committee.

Ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements governing clinical education and off-site learning environments; collaborates with hospital and other healthcare staff regarding student nursing internships, credit course work, work-study onsite experience and other activities, student supervision and activity coordination.

Serves as the primary regulatory authority and institutional liaison for the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and accrediting bodies; leads accreditation preparation, reporting, and ongoing regulatory compliance and anticipates changes to accreditation and reporting standards; provides department leadership with institutional accreditation activities with the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).Directs program evaluation processes including student learning outcomes assessment, equity metrics, and program effectiveness indicators; analyzes data and leads continuous quality improvement initiatives; conducts program reviews and studies, recommends modifications to programs, policies and procedures and implements changes; fosters quality instruction and optimal program functioning; develops and updates reports and data-tracking success measures for curriculum, courses and programs for departments.

Makes presentations to the Board of Trustees, Cabinet and other groups; represents the College and presents at community meetings and events and at local, regional, state and national conferences, meetings, workshops and training seminars.

Fosters an environment that embraces equity-minded practices, integrity, trust, and respect; supports, implements and promotes compliance with the College's Diversity and Equal Employment Opportunity Plan in all aspects of employment and education; increases cultural and ethnic diversity in staffing, programs and services.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY AND RETIREMENT
PLANThe Director of Nursing is an educational administrative position, and in compliance with all applicable sections of the California Education Code, Board of Registered Nursing (RN), and serves as Program Administrator. Employees in this classification are members of the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS). Educational administrative employees are employed subject to the terms and conditions set forth in the individual's employment agreement with the District.

Medical Insurance:
The District offers three plan options through each carrier; Kaiser and Blue Shield. Effective 10/01/2025, the District's contributions for medical insurance coverage are as follows:
Employee-only:
$1,700/month Employee plus one dependent: $2,400/month Employee plus two or more dependents: $2,900/month
Dental Insurance:
Delta Dental coverage for employee and dependents (premium paid by MCCD).
Vision Insurance:
VSP coverage for employee and dependents (premium paid by MCCD).
Sick Leave:
Accrues on an annual rate of 10 days per year; possible additional sick leave is accruable for work assigned during intersession.

Retirement Pension Plan (CalSTRS): MCCD contributes 19.10% of employee's creditable earnings to CalSTRS on a monthly basis. Mandatory employee contribution for 2025/2026 is 10.205% - 10.25%, depending on original date of membership and prior membership status.

Neither CalSTRS members nor MCCD contributes to Social Security for CalSTRS-covered service.
