Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / Infection Prevention RN assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department to ensure the highest quality of resident care in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role is also responsible for leading the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program , monitoring infection trends, implementing prevention strategies, ensuring compliance with infection control regulations, and educating staff on best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Duties Assist the Director of Nursing with daily nursing operations and clinical oversight. Support staffing coordination to ensure adequate nursing coverage. Supervise nursing personnel including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Monitor quality of resident care and ensure compliance with facility policies. Conduct rounds to assess resident conditions and nursing practices. Assist with investigations related to incidents, complaints, and resident concerns. Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings. Provide coaching, education, and corrective guidance to nursing staff. Assist with survey preparation and plan of correction implementation. Act in the absence of the Director of Nursing as assigned. Infection Prevention Duties Develop, implement, and maintain the facility Infection Prevention & Control Program. Conduct surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Track, trend, and analyze infection data including outbreaks and communicable diseases. Investigate infection-related incidents and implement containment measures. Ensure compliance with
CDC , CMS , OSHA
, and state infection control regulations. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Occupational Safety and Health Administration Coordinate isolation precautions and transmission-based precautions. Monitor antibiotic stewardship practices. Lead outbreak response planning and emergency infection control interventions. Ensure appropriate use of PPE, hand hygiene, and environmental sanitation. Collaborate with housekeeping, dietary, therapy, and other departments to reduce infection risks. Submit required infection reports to regulatory agencies. Education & Training Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment. Infection Prevention training/certification preferred. CPR certification required. Experience Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or acute care. Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory/management experience preferred. Infection prevention experience strongly preferred. Experience with state surveys and regulatory compliance preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership and staff development skills. Knowledge of long-term care regulations and standards of practice. Strong understanding of infection prevention principles. Ability to analyze clinical data and identify trends. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to respond effectively during emergencies and outbreaks. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Working Conditions Healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases. Requires use of appropriate PPE. May require weekends, holidays, or on-call availability. This position plays a critical leadership role in promoting clinical excellence, resident safety, and infection prevention throughout the facility .
