Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate, dynamic and visionary Director of Nursing to lead and elevate our hospice team. This pivotal role will support the Director of Clinical Services in providing clinical leadership, supervision ensuring quality patient care among all disciplines, and managing nursing and CNA operations across our hospice program. The DON provides clinical leadership, supervision, and professional oversight of all nursing operations for the hospice agency. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, maintains quality patient care standards, and supervises staff to deliver compassionate, evidence-based hospice services.

Primary Responsibilities Clinical Leadership:

Provide direct clinical oversight to the interdisciplinary team Mentor nurses and CNA's for professional growth and leadership development Conduct patient assessment and quality reviews for all disciplines Develop and implement evidence-based hospice clinical protocols, policies and procedures Ensure compliance with state and federal hospice regulations

Staff Management & Development:

Conduct annual competencies for all disciplines Conduct staff performance evaluations and coaching Identify and develop next-generation nursing leaders Coordinate continuing education and required monthly trainings for CNAs Address staffing needs, scheduling, and coverage as needed

Operational Management:

Monitor patient outcomes and satisfaction metrics Track clinical key performance indicators (admission & revocation rates, census, readmission rates) Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings Have a knowledge of or willingness to learn HQRP requirements including CAHPS and HOPE management Manage quality assurance initiatives and incident reviews Participate in the development of the Emergency preparedness plan and staff education

Administrative Functions:

Assist with the review of clinical documentation to ensure agency standards and compliance Participate in policy development and updates Assist with regulatory surveys, audits and inspections Collaborate with the administrative team on clinical protocols Support marketing and community partnership efforts Perform weekly and end of month audits to ensure compliance with Medicare regulations.

On-Call Coverage:

Provide after-hours clinical support to field staff Available for urgent clinical consultations Participate in the AOC rotation Required Qualifications Current RN license in New Mexico (active, unencumbered) Minimum 4+ years of nursing experience Minimum 2+ years hospice/palliative care experience Strong knowledge of hospice regulations (Medicare Conditions of Participation) Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills Time management skills Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities Strong communication and interpersonal skills Computer proficiency and EHR experience Preferred Qualifications Hospice and Palliative Nursing Certification (HPNA-BC) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Experience with hospice regulatory compliance Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies Experience with nursing recruitment and retention
