Position Summary The Director of Nursing (DON) works under the director of the Administrator and is responsible for all clinical components of resident care and manages the Nursing Department and its Associate's. The DON is a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team and oversees resident care, MDS, infection control, quality assurance, resident safety, drug management, resident assessment and all other aspects of resident care, including ensuring the facility follows all Company clinical policies and procedures as well as meeting all state and federal laws and regulations. In the absence of the Administrator, the DON ensures proper operation of the facility. The Director or Nursing is responsible for hiring, training and supervising all Nursing Department Associate's. Role and Responsibilities 1. Know, understand and implement the mission of Monument Health. 2. Follow all company policies as contained in the Associate Handbook, Code of Conduct and all other active policies including but not limited to attendance, dress code, workplace safety, zero-tolerance policies and professional conduct. 3. Participate in all required meetings, trainings and events. 4. Direct the development of nursing services, practices, standards and objectives. 5. Conduct meetings of the Interdisciplinary Care Team and implement recommendations to improve resident care. 6. Direct, evaluate and supervise all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary. 7. Assess resident care needs and assist in the development of individualized plans of resident care. 8. Ensures that MDSs are completed, reviewed, submitted and updated at 5, 14, 30, 60 and 90 days or when there is a significant change in condition. 9. Ensure that all medical record information is complete and the documentation supports the level of care being provided to the resident. 10. Assess potential admission clinical information to determine the appropriate level of care and the ability to care for potential residents. 11. Assume responsibility for development, training and implementation of all nursing care programs. 12. Participates as an assigned member of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement team. 13. Assume responsibility for analysis of incident and accident reports to determine root causes and implement corrective action when appropriate. 14. Conduct or participate in resident care conferences. 2 15. Oversees resident treatment and medication management and makes changes to resident medication regime as needed. 16. Report problems to Administrator, conduct daily resident rounds and initiate corrective action as necessary. 17. Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action. 18. Conduct Nursing Department meetings and in-service education; encourages, teaches and motivates staff to perform resident care functions in ways designed to promote and increase the resident's overall quality of life. 19. Regularly meets with the Medical Director to ensure resident care objectives are being met and that the standards, policies and procedures of the nursing department are consistent with the standards, policies and procedures of Monument Health and the Company's current standards of care and practice. 20. Interprets and maintains standards of nursing care and nursing practice. 21. Encourages, teaches and motivates staff to perform resident care functions in ways designed to promote and increase the resident's overall quality of life.
