Job Description

The Electroencephalographic (EEG) technician is responsible to the Manager of Respiratory Care Services and the interpreting Neurologist. The EEG technician performs adult/pediatric standard and ambulatory Electroencephalograms (EEGs). This person will be responsible for the performance of EEGs in a competent and efficient manner. They will ensure accurate patient assessments, patient education and quality data acquisition. The individual will be responsible for maintenance of all lab equipment, infection control, patient safety, and an effective quality assurance program. Thorough documentation, creation of concise preliminary reports, accurate billing and processing of interpreted study reports will also be done be this individual.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school/GED graduate Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement.
EEG/Electroencephalographic Technologists:
R. EEG T
credential certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET). Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic program, Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP), recognized be ABRET. Graduate from an accredited ASET program recognized be ABRET Evidence of continuing education appropriate to the area of practice. Current American Heart Association
BLS. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or higher with an emphasis on physical or biological science from an accredited college or university. One-year clinical experience in EEG Lab. Skilled in ECGs, Heart Monitors and Stress Test
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates qualifications for the position by professional credentialing, evidence of appropriate clinical experience, and competency assessment with certification from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET). Preform clinical assessments and examinations per established protocols. Demonstrates the ability to monitor the patient's physical and psychological status, utilize good critical thinking skills and ensure patient safety.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIRMENTS
Must possess visual acuity necessary to perform patient assessments and procedures. Hearing acuity sufficient to ensure accurate communication with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members. Speaking ability sufficient to ensure good communication skills. Physical ability to push and pull heavy equipment on wheels (up to 200 lbs), lift up to 50 lbs, carry up to 25 lbs, optimally position patients for exams, possess adequate arm strength to maintain prolonged position's during exams, possess digital dexterity and the ability to stand or sit for up to 80% of the workday. Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, including but not limited to sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items. Must be able to perform the duties of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.
