Paramedic - EMS Advanced EMT Applicants May Be Considered Based on Experience, Training, and Qualifications The City of Abbeville EMS is seeking motivated, professional, and dependable Paramedics to join our emergency medical services team. Paramedics are our primary recruitment focus. However, management may consider highly qualified Advanced EMTs based on their level of experience, training, certifications, demonstrated competency, and the operational needs of the department. Position Summary The Paramedic responds to emergency medical calls and provides emergency medical assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transportation at the appropriate level of care. Employees must be able to perform effectively in high-stress, rapidly changing situations while maintaining professionalism and compassion toward patients and their families.

Essential Duties Responsibilities include:

Respond to emergency medical calls involving cardiac emergencies, breathing difficulties, strokes, seizures, childbirth, motor vehicle crashes, traumatic injuries, and other medical emergencies. Assess patients, obtain medical histories, evaluate symptoms, and determine appropriate treatment. Provide emergency medical care within the employee's authorized scope of practice. Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as permitted by certification level and applicable protocols. Monitor and document patient vital signs and condition. Communicate with hospitals, physicians, dispatchers, and other emergency personnel by radio and telephone. Safely transport patients while continuing necessary medical care. Complete patient care reports, medical documentation, and other required records accurately and timely. Ensure calls are handled according to established protocols and the appropriate level of care. Participate in required training, continuing education, drills, and skills development. Assist with community events, public safety demonstrations, screenings, and standby medical coverage. Inspect, maintain, and properly use ambulances, medical equipment, and emergency supplies. Assist with maintaining the EMS station, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. Work cooperatively with law enforcement, fire departments, hospitals, dispatchers, and other emergency response agencies. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Applicants should possess:

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of appropriate emergency medical services education and training. Current or readily obtainable Alabama EMS certification at the Paramedic level . Valid driver's license and ability to legally operate emergency vehicles. Ability to maintain all certifications, continuing education requirements, and credentials required for the position. Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with emergency medical response and patient transportation. Previous EMS experience is preferred. Advanced EMT Applicants Although this recruitment is primarily for Paramedics , the City may consider experienced Advanced EMTs who possess strong qualifications, relevant training, certifications, and demonstrated EMS experience. Advanced EMT applicants are encouraged to submit their qualifications for consideration. Work Environment This position requires work in emergency and non-emergency environments, including residences, businesses, roadways, accident scenes, outdoor locations, ambulances, hospitals, and other locations.

Operate stretchers and other medical equipment. Perform emergency medical procedures requiring strength, dexterity, and coordination. Work extended periods during emergency situations when necessary.
