Hyperbaric Treatment Specialist OxyPeak Longevity Institute | The Villages, Florida Job Summary The Hyperbaric Treatment Specialist is a hybrid clinical role combining the responsibilities of a hyperbaric chamber operator/technician and a hyperbaric inside attendant, with additional front desk/reception coverage and clinical support duties consistent with an LPN or Medical Assistant working in a physician's office. This role administers and supports hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) treatments, monitors patients during chamber sessions, operates chamber controls and safety systems, administers infusions and supports infusion therapy, and provides front-desk coverage and administrative/clinical patient support when not serving as an inside attendant. This position may be scheduled part-time, full-time, or PRN, and is paid on an hourly basis. Reporting Relationship This position reports medically to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and reports administratively to the Hyperbaric Program Manager, or to the CEO in the absence of a Hyperbaric Program Manager. This role does not carry supervisory responsibility over other staff. Key Responsibilities Hyperbaric Chamber Operations Operate multiplace hyperbaric chamber controls, including pressurization, treatment (ATA) management, and decompression, in accordance with established protocols Monitor chamber environment, gas systems, communication systems, and fire suppression/safety systems throughout treatment Perform pre- and post-treatment chamber and equipment checks Maintain accurate chamber logs, treatment records, and equipment maintenance documentation Recognize and respond to chamber emergencies (e.g., decompression sickness, fire, equipment failure) in accordance with established protocols Inside Attendant & Patient Monitoring Accompany patients inside the multiplace chamber during treatment sessions Monitor patients for signs of oxygen toxicity, barotrauma, anxiety, or other treatment complications Assist patients with mask/hood use, ear equalization techniques, and in-chamber comfort and safety Recognize and respond to in-chamber medical events, escalating to the supervising physician as needed Communicate patient status to the chamber operator/console throughout treatment Infusion Therapy Administer infusions and provide related infusion therapy support to patients, consistent with physician orders and this role's licensure/certification Monitor patients receiving infusion therapy for adverse reactions and escalate concerns appropriately Maintain accurate documentation of infusion therapy administered Front Desk & Reception Coverage Provide front desk/reception coverage when not serving as an inside attendant, including greeting patients and managing check-in/check-out Answer phones and route calls appropriately Support day-to-day front-office operations as needed Clinical & Patient Support Services Perform mask/hood fittings and educate patients on proper use Conduct patient intakes, including health history and vitals, in preparation for treatment Respond to patient scheduling requests and coordinate treatment calendars Process medical records requests in accordance with Company policy and applicable law Collect and process referral information from external providers Training, Certification & Compliance Complete in-house hyperbaric chamber operator training within the first three (3) months of employment (PRN employees: within six (6) months of hire) Achieve Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification through the American Board of Wound Healing (ABWH), or an equivalent UHMS-recognized certification, within two (2) years of hire Obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification throughout employment Complete an initial hyperbaric fitness-for-duty (dive) physical prior to beginning hyperbaric chamber duties, and an annual dive physical thereafter, consistent with UHMS guidelines Review, understand, and formally attest to all applicable Company policies and procedures, and abide by them at all times Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Current, active licensure/certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), any level, or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), in good standing, required Prior experience in a clinical, hyperbaric, wound care, or physician's office setting preferred Experience with infusion therapy administration preferred; willingness to be trained on infusion protocols required Working knowledge of applicable hyperbaric safety codes, regulations, and decompression procedures, or willingness to be trained on these standards Strong communication and customer service skills, given this role's front desk and patient-facing responsibilities Certification & Continuing Education Support The Company will pay the cost of Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification, to be completed within two (2) years of hire The Company will pay for initial and renewal Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR classes required to maintain certification The Company will not pay for other ongoing continuing education (CE) required to maintain the employee's underlying EMT or LPN licensure unless the employee has been employed full-time for more than six (6) months Physical Requirements Must pass an initial hyperbaric fitness-for-duty (dive) physical prior to beginning hyperbaric chamber duties, and must pass an annual dive physical thereafter, consistent with UHMS guidelines, as a condition of continued employment in this role Must be physically able to tolerate hyperbaric exposure up to 2.0 ATA, up to a hard cap of six (6) hyperbaric sessions per week, per Company policy Ability to work in an enclosed, pressurized chamber environment for the duration of treatment sessions Ability to assist with patient positioning, transfers, and mobility as needed during treatment Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods, consistent with both inside attendant and front desk responsibilities A temporary medical condition that results in a temporary inability to meet hyperbaric fitness-for-duty requirements will not, by itself, result in termination of employment;
