Non-Exempt Reports to: Ambulance Chief The Paramedic position is a full time position who is also a paramedic for the Ambulance Corps. This position has EMS duties as well as clerical, hands on, supply ordering, scheduling and training duties. Then in the role of the EMS provider, the individual will respond to emergency calls and render patient care in line with established protocols. The Paramedic will at all times act in a manner consistent with, and aimed at furthering the vision, mission, goals, and operating principles of the Ambulance Corps. The paramedic should possess the ability to work well with others regardless of race, religion, color, sex, sexual preference, gender identity, ancestry, age, national origin, disability, marital status, veteran status, economic and educational backgrounds. Essential functions and responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to, the following: Emergency Medical Services A. Responds to emergency calls and renders patient care according to established protocols. B. Determines nature and extent of injury or illness and establishes priority. Completes initial patient assessment and requests additional help if necessary. C. In absence of law enforcement, creates a safe traffic environment by placing road flares, removing debris, and redirecting traffic to protect the injured and their caregivers. D. Constantly assesses patient enroute to receiving facility and administers care as indicated or directed by medical direction E. Reports verbally and in writing to the receiving facility all observations and medical care at the scene of an emergency and in transit. F. Based on assessment provides appropriate care, interventions and treatment in accordance with the established protocols. G. Complies with all applicable regulations on the handling of deceased individuals. H. Provides assistance to receiving facility upon request I. Adheres to all safety requirements, and restraints unless they interfere with active patient care. J. Obtains hospital information sheet and enters data in computer system to prepare trip sheet and close the call. K. Reports any ambulance or equipment problems to the Chief or Maintenance Lt. L. Reports unusual incidents to Chief or Supervisor on Duty M. At start of Shift checks in with Lehigh Communications. N. At start of shift checks all vehicle equipment, and procures pager, and Radio. O. Monitors dispatch for alerts. P. Drives ambulance to scene or receiving facility as needed. Q. Assists in keeping vehicles clean and fully stocked. Vehicle should be disinfected at the beginning of every shift, and in accordance with the Infection control policy of the Ambulance Corps. R. Promotes and perpetuates the professional service always delivered by the Ambulance Corps. S. Participates in continuing education to assure that appropriate certifications are current. T. Other duties as assigned by the Ambulance Corp. Core Competencies A. Ability to recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care. B. Ability to administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient's condition, utilizing such skills as CPR, controlling bleeding, providing invasive and noninvasive treatment, managing all types of medical and traumatic emergencies. C. Ability to lift, move, position, and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury. D. Ability to calculate weight and volume rations. E. Knowledge of, and the ability to apply when indicated, emergency services protocols and EMS policies and procedures. F. Ability to operate all EMS vehicles and equipment competently. G. Ability to communicate effective orally, and in writing H. Computer Literacy I. Effective interpersonal skills with all they come in contact with. J. Fluent in the English language Physical Requirements A. Must pass a physical examination performed by a MD, NP, or PA. B. Must be able to pass lift test. C. Must be able to lift 200 pounds alone or 300 with assistance of another attendant onto an ambulance litter from a level surface into an ambulance. D. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, and crawl on uneven terrain for extended periods of time. E. Ability to speak and hear clearly F. Adequate distance vision G. Ability to remain in a stationary position frequently but also to move about inside the office to access other staff and materials. H. Ability to handle medical equipment frequently I. Ability to communicate frequently with co-workers, staff from other entities, and the general public to exchange accurate information in these situations. J. Must be 18 years of age or older B. Valid High School Diploma or GED C. Valid Driver's License D. Acceptable FBI, Patch, Child Abuse, and Motor Vehicle Record clearances E. Associates degree preferred. F. Valid Pennsylvania Paramedic Certification or the ability to obtain within a month. G. National Registry as a paramedic Preferred. H.
