The Emergency Room Technician performs duties under the general supervision of the Emergency Room Registered Nurse. The role is supportive relative to the care of patients in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Room Technician communicates directly with providers, RNs, patients, patient's families, and other caregivers. The Emergency Room Technician is responsible for documenting cares, treatments, and/or testing performed while caring for the patient.

Takes direction from RN or provider to maintain high standard of patient careResponsible for accurate recording in electronic medical record as directed or neededResponds to pages/codes accordingly and assists as directedAssists with restraints when directedMay act as an observer for behavioral health issues (one-on-one)Provides orthopedic support goods or crutches when applicableFollows established safety and emergency policies and procedures in daily practice or emergency situations, including handling of equipment and supplies during emergenciesPerforms hazardous substance decontamination of contaminated patient(s) while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including the use of a powered air-purifying respirator and is an active member of the Decon teamAble to competently complete 12-lead EKGsAble to transport specimens to lab and other departments as directedAble to transport and assist with patients transfers and mobility needsPerforms registration tasks in the Emergency RoomPractices within the scope of practice of a nurse's aide in the state of Maine.
