Two part-time positions are available for this newly created position. Each position is a .7 FTE (56 hours per pay period) and the work shift will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include a weekend and holiday rotation

Role Responsibilities:

The Emergency Department (ED) Intake Technician triages incoming patients, gathers vital signs, documents initial information, and directs them for care, within the scope of practice under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Patient Intake personnel will greet patients, perform limited or focused assessments, will obtain and record patient vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, pulse and oxygen saturation, as well as identify urgent situations such as stroke & chest pain situations, and alert nursing staff Will accurately record patient data, vital signs, and care provided Patient Prioritization in identifying critical "STAT" cases and activating protocols for conditions like chest pain or stroke Ongoing evaluation of the patients in the ED waiting room to include repeat vital signs. Acts as a liaison between the medical team, patients, and their families to provide status updates and manage wait-room expectations. Communicate updates to families and medical staff Critical thinking & quick decision-making skills are necessary to quickly interpret symptoms and prioritize care Strong communication skills are required for clear, concise communication with patients, families, nurses, and physicians and other medical providers

ability to stay calm and provide care in high-stress, critical situations Ensure that triage and treatment rooms are cleaned, stocked with supplies, and that emergency equipment is functional Performs 12-lead EKGs, point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), and wound care Initiates basic life support measures, including CPR, airway management, and hemorrhage control when necessary Candidates may be required to assist with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician in the

Emergency Department Qualifications:

Current Advanced EMT certification or Paramedic certification One (1) year of experience in an acute hospital setting or working in an ambulance service Current BLS certification Knowledge of medical terminology Excellent communications skills Excellent organizational skills Ability to work flexible hours including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays Ability to work with all contacts using good customer relation skills Prior experience using the EPIC medical record system is preferred but not required
