GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Special Procedures Technician is a Medical Assistant (MA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who is cross-trained and competency-validated to function in the scrub role during advanced interventional and surgical procedures in the ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This role provides technical and procedural support only and functions under the direct supervision of a licensed provider or Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with Arizona scope of practice requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Scrub and Procedural Support Performs scrub role during advanced procedures using aseptic technique. Prepares and maintains the sterile field including instruments and supplies. Anticipates and passes instruments to the proceduralist. Identifies and reports breaks in sterile technique. Assists with patient positioning as directed. Special Procedures Assistance Assists with advanced procedures based on documented competency. Supports room and equipment setup. Assists with specimen handling per policy. Pre and Post Procedure Support Assists with room turnover and restocking. Performs delegated tasks appropriate to MA or CNA scope. Communicates concerns promptly to licensed staff. Equipment and Supply Management Assembles and inspects procedural equipment. Ensures proper transport of used instruments. Maintains adequate supply inventory. Compliance and Safety Complies with ADHS, OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards. Participates in education and competency validation.

EDUCATION

High School or GED equivalent

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum one year clinical experience.

CERTIFICATIONS

Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant with Arizona credentials. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Completion of scrub training and competency validation. SKILLS Sterile and aseptic technique Scrub role proficiency & instrument handling Advanced procedure assistance (within competency) Room setup, turnover, and restocking Equipment assembly, inspection, and transport Specimen handling Inventory and supply management Compliance with ADHS, OSHA, HIPAA, infection control Effective communication with RNs and providers Patient positioning support Physical stamina and fine motor dexterity

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and position equipment. Manual dexterity for surgical instruments.

Pay:

$25.00 - $37.00 per hour
