Full Job Description Description:
Position Overview The Endoscopy-Decontamination Technician plays a vital role in supporting high-quality patient care within the Endoscopy Center. This dual-function position provides skilled bedside assistance to Physicians during GI procedures and ensures endoscopic equipment is properly cleaned, disinfected, maintained, and prepared for safe use. The individual in this role demonstrates strong technical ability, teamwork, and adherence to safety and infection-control standards. Essential Job Duties Assembles all equipment and accessories that may be needed in scheduled case Is knowledgeable with all equipment, accessories and instruments used during endoscopy cases Is familiar with preferences of each endoscopist working in the center Anticipates physician needs based on procedure indications Familiar with pressure points on patient abdomen to assist passage of endoscope through colon during colonoscopy. Familiar with assistance requirements for all endoscopy situations (ie: biopsy, snare, clips, loops, etc.) Assist in other areas during free time Updates knowledge by attending in-services and seminars Attends and contributes to staff meetings Participates in QAPI activities Clean and disinfect endoscopes and accessory items in a safe and effective manner Maintains the equipment in optimum working order Prepares accessories for sterilization in an appropriate manner Prepares records for utilization Becomes familiar with all center policies and procedures Maintains adequate supplies and equipment for the efficient operation of the center Attends and contributes to staff meetings and committee meetings Performs other duties as needed for the patient, staff, or the center
Requirements:
Knowledge:
High School Diploma or GED Technical Assistant Curriculum or on the job training Understanding of clean and sterile technique Familiar with facility policies - especially Infection Control, OSHA regulations, use of PPE, patient safety Ability to trouble shoot problems with equipment in room
Skills:
Member of endoscopy procedure room team Knowledge of equipment used Anticipate needs of physician during cases
Organization Abilities:
Superior communication skills Adaptability Self motivated Good decision-making skills Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity Physical demands: Standing for long periods of time Visual acuity Ability to hear requests from physician
