Job Description

About Adapt Adapt is a neurological performance and wellness center dedicated to helping people improve movement, strength, independence, and quality of life. Our team works with individuals living with neurological diseases, injuries, physical disabilities, and complex movement challenges. Our clients may include people living with multiple sclerosis, ALS, spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, transverse myelitis, and other neurological conditions. We are not a traditional gym and this is not a traditional personal training role. Our specialists combine principles of exercise science, strength and conditioning, functional movement, activity-based recovery, and adaptive exercise to create highly individualized programs for people with a wide range of abilities. Most importantly, we build long-term relationships with the people we serve. The Opportunity Adapt is seeking a Neurological Movement & Performance Specialist who is passionate about helping people move better and is comfortable working with individuals whose abilities, goals, and physical presentations may vary significantly from day to day. This role requires more than the ability to prescribe exercises. Our specialists must be able to observe movement, think critically, modify programming in real time, measure progress, and develop meaningful professional relationships with clients and their families. The ideal candidate brings a multidisciplinary mindset and understands that effective neurological and adaptive training requires curiosity, patience, creativity, empathy, and excellent communication. You should be equally comfortable developing a structured movement program, assisting a client with a transfer, modifying an exercise because of fatigue or spasticity, documenting progress, and spending time understanding what matters most to the person in front of you. What You'll Do As a Neurological Movement & Performance Specialist, you will: Design and deliver individualized movement, exercise, strength, mobility, and performance programs based on each client's abilities, goals, diagnosis, and presentation. Work directly with individuals living with neurological diseases, neurological injuries, physical disabilities, and other movement limitations. Evaluate movement quality, strength, mobility, balance, coordination, endurance, and functional capacity. Establish measurable goals and systematically track client progress. Document training outcomes and use objective and subjective measures to evaluate program effectiveness. Continuously modify and progress programming based on client response, performance, fatigue, recovery, and changing abilities. Apply principles of functional movement, corrective exercise, strength and conditioning, and activity-based recovery when appropriate. Safely assist with transfers, positioning, equipment setup, gait activities, and other adaptive training needs. Collaborate with other Adapt specialists and, when appropriate, members of a client's broader care or rehabilitation team. Educate and encourage clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Develop strong, trusting relationships with clients and families. Create an environment where every client feels respected, challenged, supported, and capable. Participate in ongoing education and development related to neurological movement, adaptive exercise, and Adapt's training methodology. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in human movement who is comfortable applying that knowledge to populations that do not always fit neatly into a textbook.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Strong knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, strength training, and human movement. Experience developing individualized exercise or movement programs. Confidence modifying exercises and programming based on a client's abilities and response. Comfort working one-on-one with clients who may have significant physical disabilities or neurological impairments. Strong observational and problem-solving skills. The ability to track progress, recognize meaningful changes, and adjust programming accordingly. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Patience, empathy, emotional intelligence, and professionalism. An ability to connect personally with clients while maintaining a high standard of professional care. Comfort working with people across a wide range of ages, physical abilities, diagnoses, and backgrounds. A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from professionals across multiple disciplines. Education & Experience A degree or significant coursework in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Kinesiology Exercise Science Exercise Physiology Strength and Conditioning Athletic Training Adaptive Physical Activity Human Performance Rehabilitation Science Biomechanics Occupational or Physical Rehabilitation-related fields Relevant professional experience may be considered in place of a specific degree. Current or previous certifications from organizations such as NASM, ACSM, ACE, NSCA, or similar nationally recognized organizations are highly valued. Highly Desired Experience Candidates with experience in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: Neurological exercise or rehabilitation Activity-Based Recovery / Activity-Based Therapy Adaptive fitness or adaptive athletics Spinal cord injury Multiple sclerosis ALS Stroke recovery Traumatic brain injury Cerebral palsy Parkinson's disease Balance, gait, or mobility training Strength and conditioning Corrective exercise Working with wheelchair users Transfers and adaptive equipment Working alongside physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, or other rehabilitation professionals A multidisciplinary background is particularly valuable. We welcome candidates whose careers have crossed traditional boundaries between fitness, performance, rehabilitation, adaptive exercise, and human movement. The Person We Want Technical knowledge matters, but the way you work with people matters just as much. At Adapt, many clients work with us for years. You become part coach, part problem-solver, part educator, and an important member of the support system surrounding that individual. We are looking for someone who can challenge a client without losing empathy; who can celebrate small improvements because they understand how meaningful those improvements can be; and who remains curious when the obvious solution does not work. You should enjoy solving difficult movement problems. You should be comfortable asking questions. You should care about results. And you should genuinely enjoy working with people. Physical Requirements Because of the nature of our work, candidates should be comfortable: Standing, kneeling, squatting, and moving throughout training sessions. Demonstrating and assisting with exercises. Assisting clients with setups, positioning and transfers. Setting up and moving exercise and adaptive equipment. Providing hands-on assistance while following established safety procedures. Reasonable accommodations will be considered where appropriate. Why Adapt At Adapt, you will have the opportunity to develop expertise that is difficult to gain in a traditional fitness environment. You will work with complex and inspiring clients, collaborate with experienced neurological movement professionals, and learn how exercise and movement can be applied to populations often underserved by the traditional fitness industry. For the right person, this is an opportunity to develop into an exceptional movement professional while doing work that has a meaningful impact on people's everyday lives. If you are curious about human movement, energized by challenging problems, comfortable working with disability, and believe great coaching starts with understanding the individual in front of you, we would love to meet you.
