SUMMARY OF DUTIES A

Functional Family Therapist is expected to provide services for families in the home, school, and community, which are designed to, (1) ensure safety and stability of the child to promote successful functioning in the home, school and community; (2) avert treatment in a residential or inpatient setting; (3) strengthen family functioning; and (4) assist students in achieving optimal benefits from their education. The FFT Therapist will also coordinate delivery of clinical services to families with other team members and community providers..

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Also, must meet one of the following sets of credentials: A physician in training in an ACOME (Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education) accredited residency program in child and adolescent psychiatry under program faculty supervision. Ph.D. in Clinical or School Psychology from a nationally accredited university Master's degree from a nationally accredited university as a national board certified behavior analyst, marriage and family therapist, Nationally Certified Counselor, psychologist, social worker, school psychologist, or psychiatric nurse. Ph.D. student in clinical psychology studying in an accredited program under program faculty supervision. Education may be substituted with certificates in a specialty such as Certified Substance Abuse Counselors (CSAC) OR registered Professional Nurses certified in psychiatric nursing.

Must have a minimum of one-year full time clinically supervised progressive work experience inclusive of residency, internship or practicum in the care of youth in a mental health or educational setting.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Ability and desire to work with children and their families. Able to work with people of multi-cultural and different levels of educational and socioeconomic status. Demonstrated leadership ability and organizational skills Strong oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of child/adolescent and family dynamics. Working knowledge of Word 98 system or above and e-mail communication. Mental Demands Must be able to work under stress with multiple tasks with minimal supervision, interfacing with all levels of professional and support personnel. Ability to respond to constant change and demands from external sources. Able to make adjustment to internal operations, including guidance and support of staff. Must be able to handle distressed individuals, in person or on the phone. Ability to respond quickly and with good judgment in emergency situations. Requires flexibility and adaptability to change.
