Early Childhood Therapist Reports to:
Child and Adolescent Director Job Purpose:
The Early Childhood Therapist is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate, evidence-based mental health services to infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children, and their families. This position utilizes a family-centered approach to assess, diagnose, and treat social, emotional, and behavioral concerns while promoting healthy child development. Services are provided in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 24, applicable ethical standards, and Siouxland Mental Health Center policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive mental health assessments for children ages birth through approximately six years old. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans utilizing developmentally appropriate interventions. Collect information about clients' physical and mental condition through interviews, observation, and assessments; evaluate clients based on this information. Utilize play therapy, parent coaching, attachment-based interventions, and trauma-informed approaches appropriate for early childhood. Support parents and caregivers in strengthening healthy attachment, emotional regulation, and positive parenting strategies. Collaborate with pediatricians, preschools, childcare providers, schools, and other community partners to coordinate care. Assist families in accessing community resources that support child development and family well-being. Provide individual, family, and parent-child therapy utilizing evidence-based practices. Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust treatment plans to resolve problems and progress towards defined objectives. Coordinate with families, probation officers, police, DHS, doctors, and other interested parties in order to exchange necessary information during the treatment process. Participate in an interdisciplinary approach to client care, complete internal program referrals, and demonstrate a high degree of team-based treatment. Act as client advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations. Maintain up-to-date individual charts on clients in adherence to Iowa Code Chapter 24 and other policies and regulations established by the agency; charts should include an assessment, social history, progress notes for each contact with client, treatment plan, and other required assessments (PHQ-9, DLA-20, etc.). Maintain confidentiality of records and information related to clients and their treatments. Prepare clients for discharge from therapy and document appropriate discharge plans. Improve professional skills through continuing education, peer supervision, and individual supervision as needed. Plan and conduct programs that will improve community mental health and prevent harmful outcomes. Participate in the shared responsibility for weekend therapy coverage at the Siouxland Mental Health Crisis Center, on a rotating basis. Serve clients in person or remotely via telehealth service modules.

Technology skills - the individual displays the ability to maneuver and document in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), including the use of zoom to perform telehealth services.
Experience and Education:
Required:
Master's degree in Social Work (LMSW), Counseling (LMHC) or Family Therapy (LMFT) 2 years of social services experience
Preferred:
Experience providing therapy to infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children, and their families. Experience with play therapy and parent-child interventions. Knowledge of child development, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and infant/early childhood mental health. Knowledge of Siouxland community resources Specifically looking for Independent level licensure in the state of Iowa (LISW)
