The young men we serve may be struggling with unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, technology overuse, school refusal, family conflict, identity confusion, failure to launch, or an overall lack of motivation and direction. We are not a traditional treatment program built solely around diagnoses and symptom management. Clinical treatment is an important part of what we do, but our work goes deeper. We help young men better understand their stories, resolve the experiences that continue to shape their behavior, take responsibility for their choices, and develop the internal foundation needed to move into adulthood with confidence. Our program integrates therapy, mentoring, family work, experiential programming, physical fitness, education, life skills, service, and daily accountability. Position Overview The Carpenter Shed is seeking a full-time therapist to work directly with our all-male population of young men ages 16-20. We are specifically looking for a strong male clinical presence who can serve as both an effective therapist and a healthy example of mature masculinity. This person must be able to connect with young men, help them process and resolve trauma, challenge unhealthy thinking and behavior, and guide them toward greater responsibility, emotional maturity, and direction. This is not a position for someone who wants to sit behind a desk and provide therapy in isolation. Our therapists work closely with mentors, families, educators, and program leadership to ensure that clinical insight becomes visible change in a young man's daily life. The right therapist will be relational but direct, compassionate but firm, and able to hold young men accountable without shaming or humiliating them. Lasting change requires more than feeling better. It requires becoming someone different. Purpose, meaning, and direction are essential to a young man's long-term development. Our work helps young men move from "It is not my fault" toward "It is my responsibility." Primary Responsibilities Provide individual therapy to young men ages 16-20 Facilitate process groups, psychoeducational groups, and other therapeutic programming Help clients identify, process, and resolve trauma and adverse life experiences Complete clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans Provide family therapy and support parents and caregivers throughout the treatment process Address depression, anxiety, identity, substance use, relationships, emotional regulation, family conflict, and failure-to-launch concerns Help young men develop purpose, clarify personal values, and establish meaningful goals Challenge avoidance, dishonesty, entitlement, victim thinking, and other patterns that interfere with growth Teach healthy communication, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and relationship skills Collaborate closely with mentors and program staff to translate clinical goals into daily action Participate in treatment-team meetings, clinical staffing, and supervision Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation Assist with crisis response, safety planning, discharge planning, and coordination of care Participate in experiential, outdoor, fitness, service, and character-development activities when appropriate Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and comply with all ethical, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements Required Qualifications Applicants must hold one of the following active Louisiana credentials: Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor, or PLPC Provisionally Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or PLMFT Licensed Professional Counselor, or LPC Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or LMFT Applicants must also: Be eligible to practice clinically in Louisiana Be able to work full-time, Monday through Friday during daytime hours Demonstrate strong professional boundaries, dependability, and follow-through Be comfortable working closely with an all-male population ages 16-20 Be willing to work as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary team The Carpenter Shed will provide and pay for required clinical supervision for provisionally licensed therapists. Experience and Training Previous experience in addiction treatment is not required. Experience working with adolescent or young-adult males, trauma, family systems, residential programs, or structured therapeutic environments is helpful, but we are willing to invest in the right person. We are eager to support meaningful professional development and will invest in additional training that strengthens the therapist's ability to serve our population. Areas of potential training may include: Trauma-focused treatment EMDR or Brainspotting Experiential therapy Family systems Motivational interviewing CBT and DBT Attachment and adolescent development Substance-use and co-occurring disorders Group facilitation We are not expecting one person to walk through the door knowing everything.
