Job Description

About Us Empathic Pathways Behavioral and Mental Health Foundation provides comprehensive behavioral and mental health services to individuals, couples, families, military personnel, and the community. We are committed to high-quality care and to nurturing the next generation of mental health professionals through supportive, hands-on training. We are currently accepting practicum students who are passionate about developing their clinical skills in a collaborative, trauma-informed, and client-centered environment. Position Overview Practicum students will gain supervised, real-world clinical experience while working side-by-side with a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) . This placement is designed to help students build competency, confidence, and professional identity as emerging clinicians. Students receive individualized support, structured training, and meaningful opportunities to apply what they are learning in their academic programs. This is an ideal placement for students who value mentorship, enjoy a balanced hybrid schedule (in-office and telehealth), and want to work with diverse populations and presenting concerns. Key Responsibilities Clinical Experience Provide individual therapy under LMFT supervision Co-facilitate and later independently facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups Conduct intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and treatment planning with guidance Document sessions, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with agency standards Develop and refine case conceptualization and clinical intervention skills Participate in crisis management under supervision, as appropriate to training level Professional Development Work closely with the supervising LMFT for weekly individual and group supervision Receive direct, real-time feedback during clinical work when appropriate Attend team meetings, case consultations, and didactic training sessions Learn best practices related to ethics, cultural humility, documentation, boundaries, and self-care Client Populations You May Work With Children, adolescents, and adults Couples and families Military personnel and their families Clients experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, grief, relational stress, and more Training & Support Provided Weekly supervision with LMFT (meets BBS requirements) Additional case consultation and clinical guidance outside scheduled supervision Hands-on experience with evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT skills, trauma-informed approaches, family systems, etc.) Opportunities to observe licensed clinicians and gradually progress toward independent sessions Access to in-office resources and telehealth systems Supportive, encouraging environment focused on learning—not perfection Schedule & Commitment Hybrid schedule : combination of in-office and remote telehealth hours Flexible scheduling to support student coursework Minimum hours per week based on school requirements This placement may be used for practicum, pre-internship, or fieldwork depending on program structure Ideal Candidate Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work Reliable, communicative, and open to feedback Passionate about helping others and learning in a supportive clinical environment Interested in developing strong foundational skills in both individual and group therapy Benefits of Choosing Empathic Pathways Close mentorship from an experienced LMFT Rich clinical experience with diverse populations Opportunities to co-lead groups and develop specialized clinical interests Flexible scheduling and hybrid work options A supportive training culture that values growth, curiosity, and compassion
