Working at the New Canaan YMCA offers a chance to make a positive impact in our community and transform lives. We are looking for an energetic Wellness Associate to work our evening and weekend shifts. This position is also available to substitute for 3+ hour shifts. CPR Certification Required.
GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Wellness Desk Associate will be part of the support staff that is responsible for customer service and meeting the needs of the membership. This is to be accomplished by interacting with members, handling basic questions and administrative tasks, and contributing to the upkeep, cleanliness, and safety standards of the Wellness/Fitness facilities.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
Maintain a professional attitude at all times during your employment at the New Canaan YMCA. Greet members cheerfully, acknowledge and interact with members during your shift. Assist participants while they are using the facilities and circulate among the members every 10 - 15 minutes. Maintain a neat and clean Wellness Center/Zone by performing all outlined cleaning duties and addressing any areas that need immediate attention. Notify proper personnel of any problems that arise. Cooperate with fellow staff members, e.g., being available to substitute when possible, conveying pertinent information to your supervisor, and doing your part in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility. Attend a minimum of 2 of the yearly staff meetings. Attend a minimum of 2 in-house training sessions offered by the New Canaan YMCA (C.P.R. and First Aid reviews are mandatory and count as one training session). Incorporate and promote the YMCA mission, as you carry out your responsibilities.
EFFECT ON END RESULT
The Wellness Desk Associate will ensure that members have a positive member experience while using the Wellness Center.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position does require medium work, e.g., occasionally picking weights up off the floor (1- 45 lbs.), pushing/pulling benches into place, and kneeling, crouching, or bending while cleaning equipment. Must also be able to stand for extended periods of time when at the desk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
KNOW-HOW
Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate and interact with others in a positive manner. Must be available to work on weekends and evenings. Must be willing and able to go through First Aid/Adult
C.P.R./ AED
certification training by their start date and maintain that certification for the duration of employment.
