Water Safety Instructor - DOE Aquatic Injury Prevention Program The Water Safety Instructor will provide free swim and water-safety lessons to elementary school students through a Department of Education (DOE) aquatic injury prevention program. The instructor's primary responsibility is to teach children essential swimming skills, water-safety practices, and basic aquatic survival techniques in a safe, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Key Responsibilities Teach beginner and water-safety swim lessons to elementary-aged students. Provide instruction in swimming fundamentals, water orientation, floating, kicking, breathing, and basic strokes. Teach aquatic safety, including safe behavior around pools and open water. Help students develop confidence and appropriate responses to water emergencies. Maintain a safe and supervised aquatic environment at all times. Follow DOE/program safety policies, lesson plans, and emergency procedures. Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback to students and program staff. Adapt instruction to different ages, abilities, comfort levels, and learning needs. Communicate professionally with school staff, program coordinators, students, and families as appropriate. Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and incident documentation. Respond appropriately to emergencies and participate in required safety and emergency-response procedures. Promote injury prevention and lifelong water-safety awareness. Qualifications Experience teaching or assisting with swimming or aquatic programs. Strong swimming and water-safety skills. Ability to work effectively with elementary-aged children. Strong communication, patience, professionalism, and classroom-management skills. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, as required. Current lifeguard, water-safety instructor, or equivalent aquatic certification preferred/required depending on program requirements. Ability to pass required DOE/background screening and complete program training. Program Purpose The position supports aquatic injury prevention by giving children access to free swimming instruction and practical water-safety education that can help them become safer and more confident around water.

Pay:

$20.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 8.0 - 10.0 per week
