A Health Educator creates programs that are designed to teach people and motivate them to follow healthy behaviors. Works with individual patients and families in a health care settings, or develops campaigns and materials directed to larger groups such as college students. Organizes events like health screenings, trainings for peer educators or professionals, or incentive programs like weight loss challenges. May advise on public health policy.
SUMMARY The Health Educator - After School Lead serves as the lead Prevention Works staff member at an assigned middle school site, overseeing daily after-school programming and delivering prevention and health education services to youth and families. This position is responsible for program facilitation, site coordination, staff and volunteer support, relationship-building with school and community partners, youth engagement, and program evaluation while ensuring alignment with Prevention Works' mission and quality standards. This role works independently to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for students while supporting positive youth development and evidence-based prevention practices. The Health Education and After School Lead also collaborates with Prevention Works staff across additional sites and programs as needed to support organizational initiatives, events, and program success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership Program Oversight Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily after-school program activities and schedules. Support planning, coordination, and evaluation of health education and prevention programs. Ensure programs meet quality standards and strategic organizational goals. Ensure compliance with licensing, safety, and organizational requirements. Support organization in the programming room. Leadership Supervise and evaluate program staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing coaching and support. Recommend and implement improvements to programming based on current evidence and trends. Provide internal leadership by training team members on program processes and expectations. Model professional, responsible behavior when representing PW. Facilitation Serve as the lead facilitator of PW prevention programs and health education programming for youth and families, overseeing and directing other facilitators to plan, guide, and manage group events to ensure program objectives are effectively met with good engagement and participation. Facilitate prevention programs to youth and adults with program fidelity, properly implementing evidence-based programming. Assist PW team with training and developing program facilitators in curriculum. Prepare and organize materials, supplies and other related documents for prevention programs. Assist PW team with developing new or revising current materials and documents related to prevention programs as needed. Maintain communication with Program Managers regarding progress of programs at each site. Maintain accurate, complete records of programs and projects, including program attendance sheets, participant surveys, and program reports. Responsible for gathering program highlights (success stories, testimonials, and program results) with program partners, Program Facilitators, and participants. Engaging Partnerships Effectively communicate with partners regarding program progress, issues that need to be addressed and commitment to shared priorities. Coordinate and conduct outreach to recruit youth and adult program participants, along with doing presentations with college students and community members to recruit new staff. Responsible for engaging and maintaining collaborative relationships with program partners. Other Maintain confidentiality and respect PW resources. PW. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Relevant degree or experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching, training, or presenting is required. Experience working with individuals making high-risk choices with substance use and/or in active recovery is preferred; along with experience working with diverse populations. Certified Prevention Specialist or actively obtaining certification is preferred with certification required within two years of hire. Must maintain certification requirements.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND OTHER COMPETENCIES
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present information and interact effectively in a classroom setting with comfort level presenting to youth and families. Computer and internet experience required (Microsoft Word, Excel, Google and Zoom). Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and follow through on tasks and projects. Ability to work successfully both individually and in a team environment. Ability to make sound decisions and be accountable for them, involving others when appropriate. Embrace and demonstrate an understanding of the mission and vision of PW and support organizational decisions. Ability to maintain an open mind and to recognize and embrace cultural differences. Ability to foster a non-judgmental environment and develop genuine connections, new thinking, and collaboration, while communicating unbiased responses with youth and adults.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation to all assigned work locations. Required to travel to program sites approximately 25-50% of time. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for the program schedule.
Hours:
Weekdays between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Evenings and weekends may be needed, along with expanded hours during events.
