Our Community Health Awareness Team (CHAT) works to improve health outcomes in Chautauqua County and support individuals who face systemic barriers to quality, innovative sexual and reproductive health education. When you join YWCA Jamestown as a Community Health Educator you will provide high-quality, sexual and reproductive health education to youth, young adults and parents located throughout Chautauqua County.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in health, education, psychology, sociology, education or related field At least 1 year of experience working with youth ages 11-21 as a positive and inspiring role model (mentor, youth worker, etc.) Experience coordinating programming, raising awareness, and planning events Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and/or weekends What makes you stand out: Experience in public health and /or education Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Responsibilities:

Deliver evidenced-based program(s) with fidelity (as prescribed by curriculum developer and in accordance w/ACT for Youth guidelines) to youth in a variety of settings (i.e., in-school, after school programs, community based organizations, etc.). Collect demographic and evaluation data from workshop and training participants; compile data appropriately and prepare submission and periodic reporting Develop and build relationships with individuals, programs, and organizations to expand CAPP programming through outreach and networking Provides assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain access to family planning services, health services or other essential support services as needed Serves as a mentor to Peer Health Educator(s) by providing support and guidance to achieve self-determined goals, complete program activities, and develop workforce skills Develop and implement educational and recreational programs for youth that promote positive social, emotional, physical and cognitive development Plan and implement programs, activities, and events that are culturally relevant and responsive to the needs and interests of area youth. Assists the CAPP Director in initiating and carrying out events and projects Attends and participates in regular agency meetings and in-service training. The Skills You'll Need Success in the Community Educator role will require deep commitment to sexual health education, increasing access to reproductive health services, and positive youth development. The ideal candidate will also bring the following skills, attributes and experiences: Commitment to advancing the YWCA mission, vision, and values Ability to comfortably facilitate discussion and teach classes to youth about sensitive subjects, such as sexual and reproductive health, confidentiality, and access to services Is a positive role model who is dedicated to providing guidance and support to Peer Health Educators Ability to work independently and also thrive collaboratively in a dynamic team environment Highly organized, self-motivated, and can prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects at once Experience with individuals and communities impacted by adverse health outcomes, knowledge of systemic barriers to sexual reproductive health and wellbeing faced by marginalized communities, especially women, LGBTQ+, poor/working class, and people of color

One location with travel to off site programs and schools throughout Chautauqua County.
