JOB SUMMARY
The Youth Team Coach is a part of a team of coaches who are responsible for delivering practice content to our youth climbing teams and crafting the experience for all levels of Youth Team. Youth Team Climbing Coaches partner with Team Coach Supervisors and/or Manager to plan and execute programming that results in transformative experiences for youth athletes and teaches life skills through sport climbing.
Note:
We're hiring coaches for both our Recreational Youth Programs and our Competitive & Development Team Programs! Recreational Youth Programs introduce young climbers to the sport in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment. Coaches help participants build confidence, develop fundamental climbing skills, foster a love of movement, and create positive experiences for climbers of all abilities. If you're passionate about mentoring kids, creating an encouraging atmosphere, and helping climbers discover the sport, this may be the perfect fit. Competitive & Development Team Programs focus on long-term athlete development, technical skill progression, competition preparation, strength and movement training, goal setting, and helping motivated climbers reach their full potential while fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive training culture. Competitive coaches may also have opportunities to travel with athletes to USA Climbing competitions throughout the season. Previous experience as a competitive climber and/or coach is highly valued, but not required. If you don't have a competitive climbing background, don't stress—our recreational coaching program may be a better fit, and we'd still love to hear from you.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and support transformative experiences for athletes while ensuring team activities promote our core values and a sense of belonging in team member. Work with Team Manager and/or Team Coach Supervisors to follow the season schedule and deliver the daily instruction for this level of team including Comps, Events, Training plan etc. May include teaching top rope belay and bouldering risk management skills at this level after receiving appropriate training and approval May include providing input on or writing lesson plans that support the program's goals and participant growth and promote connection to our community Coach at practices of this level of team, and competitions as needed based on athlete attendance. Provide supervision for youth climbers who will be bouldering and belaying. Assist with administrative duties for this team level, including monitoring team rosters, tracking belay training, organizing practice notes, and communicating with parents. Effectively communicate any issues or concerns with coaching staff and the management team in a timely manner. Collaborate with Team Coach Supervisor to facilitate mentorship opportunities and personal development for their team level.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Have a passion for climbing, yoga, or fitness, or an interest in engaging with our community, and show a growth mindset through a willingness to learn and a sense of curiosity. Demonstrate an openness to learn from others and collaborate to achieve common goals. Interest in working with both children and adults to support others having transformative, purpose-driven experiences. Have a relentlessly positive and upbeat attitude to inspire others to live life intentionally and strive for personal bests. Prior experience working with youth preferred but not required. Prior climbing experience required and prior experience instructing on any topic preferred. Lead climbing skills and instruction preferred but not required at full service facility Ability to work 6-10 hours per week primarily on weekday afternoons and/or weekends. Ability to work a complete.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a part time position The rate for this position is $18.25-$20.00 with flexibility based on experience Benefits include free membership, in-gym discounts, guest visits, and pro-deals New hires will complete a screening process. Scheduled shift times may vary from week to week or month to month. Opportunities for passionate individuals with strong instruction skills to advance into other operations and programs positions within the gym.
