POSITION OVERVIEW

The Intermittent Health Educator supports health education and promotion activities for the Wood County Health Department. This position assists in planning and delivering health education programs, creating materials for community outreach, and supporting events that promote wellness and disease prevention. The Health Educator will help to identify, develop and deliver curricula to promote healthy living, conduct health education activities and oversee resources that support health education and outreach efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Deliver health education programming to individuals, families, and community groups. Assist in planning, preparing, and presenting health education programs for schools, community groups, and partner organizations. Support outreach events by preparing displays, handouts, and materials. Create or update simple flyers, brochures, and social media posts to share health information. Assist with recruitment, enrollment and retention of program participants. Help collect feedback and participation data from health education events. Assist with campaigns that promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention. Build positive relationships with community members and partners. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and department projects as assigned. Maintain confidentiality and represent the department in a professional and courteous manner. Represents the agency on regional and county committees, collaborations and coalitions. Provide data and information as requested by funding agencies to support local, state, and federal reporting requirements, and assist with grant-related documentation and reporting activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in public health, health education, or related field. One (1) year of health education, public health or related experience. Valid Ohio Driver's License. Must be maintained throughout employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional certification related to health education (i.e. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), health coach). Experience supporting Ohio Department of Health (ODH)-funded grant activities Experience delivering health education in both individual and group settings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of public health regulations and standards as defined by federal, state and local governments. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. The ability to drive to off-site and satellite locations, as required. Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responds to emergency calls. Provide proof of automobile insurance. The ability to successfully pass a background check. Final candidates must successfully pass a background check and provide proof of a valid State of Ohio driver's license as well as current automobile insurance. An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
