Job Description
Whatcom Family Village is a community wellbeing space in Bellingham's Puget neighborhood, dedicated to nourishing new and growing families. We offer drop-in hours, support circles, prenatal eduction courses, workshops, fitness classes and parent-child classes in a warm, "come as you are" space — welcoming all emotions, kids in tow, and every path to parenthood. All of our programming is equitable access through a generous sliding scale and scholarship policy. We are seeking a warm, skilled Group Facilitator to lead one or more of our peer support circles on a contract basis. Facilitators create a welcoming, trauma-informed space where parents and caregivers can connect, be heard, and support one another through the early parenting journey. This is an independent contractor position, paid per session/series, with flexibility to facilitate one or multiple groups depending on fit and availability. Groups You Might Facilitate Depending on your background and lived experience, you may facilitate one or more of our current circles, such as: Newborn Postpartum Circle (0-5 months)
- a six-week guided circle supporting birthing parents in the early months Early Motherhood (5-18 months)
- a six week session for those moving out of the fourth trimester or returning to work Couples Early Parenthood (0-12mo)

Baby:
comprehensive multi week prenatal preparation course Occasional themed workshops or drop-in support hours Facilitate a warm, confidential, and emotionally safe circle for participants each session Hold space using a trauma-informed, advice-free peer support model Gently guide group discussion, ensuring all voices are welcomed and heard Manage group dynamics and address interpersonal conflict with care when it arises Set up and reset the space before/after sessions Communicate with Whatcom Family Village leadership regarding scheduling, attendance, and any participant concerns Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all group discussions Refer out to outside resources as is necessary (using good judgment and protocols) Maintain consistent attendance, timeliness, and record keeping Qualifications Lived experience relevant to the group you'd be facilitating (e.g., postpartum experience, BIPOC parenting experience, early motherhood) Willingness to complete in-house facilitator training, covering confidentiality, trauma-informed practices, and an advice-free facilitation model (training provided if not already completed) Group facilitation experience helpful, not required Warm, empathetic presence with strong active-listening skills Comfort holding space for a range of emotions in a group setting Reliable and communicative; comfortable working independently Experience with birth work, perinatal support, counseling, or community facilitation is a plus, but lived experience matters mostDetails Location:
