Job Description

TITLE :
Health Information Management (HIM) Technician
DEPARTMENT
:
Heath Information Management STATUS :
Relief on Call (ROC) opportunities are available for weekdays (Monday through Friday).
HOURS :
ROC- Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Health Information Management Department Manager, assembles and analyzes inpatient and outpatient records daily, maintains health information management integrity through scanning and retrieving confidential patient records; answers telephone and responds to customer requests; Performs release of information requests as well as various other clerical duties.
QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. High School Graduate or equivalency, required. 2. Certification in HIT, preferred. 2. Medical Terminology course, required. 3. Anatomy and physiology course, preferred. 4. Customer service experience, required. 5. Proficiency in software applications that include, but are not limited to EMR software application, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, required. 6. One year previous experience in Health Care HIM Department, preferred. 7. Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, providers, and all other hospital support personnel. 8. Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining a hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committee. 9. Influences the direction of HIM services by maintaining a positive perspective/attitude. 10. Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure and excellence in the delivery of health information management services. 11. Demonstrates strong working knowledge of medical record principles and practices of HIM. 12. Demonstrated accuracy in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 13. Ability to file numerically and alphabetically.
