POSITION SUMMARY DEFINITION
Under general direction, provides direct supportive care to patients. May perform designated procedures under supervision of the Registered Nurse or Physician within their scope of practice.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education Education supplemented by vocational training in para-medical program (EMT-1 or Paramedic). Or an accredited LVN program as evidenced by licensure.
Experience:
Previous experience as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-1, paramedic or LVN) preferred but not required.
License or Certificate:
BLS certification through AHA EMT certification or Licensed Paramedic Or current California LVN licensure with IV certification Phlebotomy State Certification (if not licensed paramedic or LVN with IV cert) Basic arrhythmia (preferred)
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Anatomy and physiology Medical modalities. Basic arrhythmia Basic EMT procedures. Modern office equipment, information system and software programs Report writing.
Ability to:
Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures. Keep abreast of developments in the field of expertise. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Prepare necessary reports and records. Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
AGE OF PATIENTS COMPETENCIES
(if applicable) Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
