Role Overview:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a paraprofessional caregiver under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse. They assume responsibility and accountability for activities of daily living, environmental duties and other tasks as designated by his/her competency level. This position will work Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Essential Functions:

Take patients temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, and weight. Observe dietary intake of patients. Enter information into Electronic Health Record (EHR). Report unusual findings to RN. Assist patients (as needed) with basic needs, such as eating, drinking, dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, positioning, and ambulation. Assist with keeping patient rooms neat and clean. Perform accu-check blood sugar testing after training with lab manager is completed. Requirements and Skills/Physical/Mental:

High school graduate. At least one year previous experience in the same or similar position required. Excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to accurately perform basic math functions and enter data into electronic records. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, and weight. CPR certification. Ability to stand/walk 6 to 8 hours per shift. Ability to perform light to heavy work, which includes frequent lifting and positioning of patients. For greater than 50 pounds, it may be expected that the PCT will request assistance from a co-worker for lifting and transferring. Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop and occasionally kneel and squat. All employees within this job classification may have high-risk exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials. Ability to work under stress, with interruptions and deadlines.
