Shift:

PRN/Per Diem, Days, Nights, and Weekends available, 12-hour shifts 0630-1830 Responsibilities and Duties -

General:

Works cooperatively with personnel in your assigned department and with other service departments to create a system of quality care delivery. Assist the RN, LPN and/or provider with patient care and procedures by maintaining a working knowledge of all items listed on the evaluation skills checklist. Reflect professional image for the job. Self-motivated and highly organized. Responds and participates in emergency situations throughout the hospital as needed. Complete monthly chore assignments as delegated by the department manager.

Records vital signs:

temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, weight, height, blood pressure, end-tidal CO2, intake/output measurements as indicated per department protocol and patient condition. Pay close attention to the work environment and is very conscientious about keeping it safe, uncluttered and free of hazards. Answers patient call lights, anticipates patient's needs, and makes rounds to assigned patients. Able to assist families by answering and relaying questions appropriately. Attends in-service education program assigned. Attends unit staff meetings. Completes assigned education on time. Practice careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen, and follows established charging procedure for entering chargeable patient items. Maintains current knowledge to perform job to quality standards; knowledge of universal precautions; knowledge of infection control plan; knowledge of safety/disaster plan for the hospital. Able to enter computer orders as needed. Answers the telephone and relays communication effectively and in a timely manner. Perform 12-Lead EKGs, document such. Assists with patient transfers to other facilities - gathering needed information/documents, faxing information, etc. Completes accurate documentation of the patient care/assessment provided with the scope of the PCT job description/certification/license. Assist the nurse in complicated treatment procedures. Prepare patients for meals, serve and remove food trays, and assist with meals or feeding patients and documenting the patient's intake of meals. Responds to emergency situations throughout the hospital as needed Assist the RN, LPN and/or provider with patient care and procedures by maintaining a working knowledge of all items listed on the evaluation skills checklist. PCT will be cross trained in the Emergency Department and Observation Unit. Perform blood glucose monitoring and report findings. Remove peripheral IV catheters and apply dressing to site. Responsibilities and Duties -

Emergency Department:

Initiate patient care by receiving the patient from the registrar area and escorting the patient to the appropriate exam area, registering patient, recording allergies, tetanus status, how arrived, time received, patient physicians, and obtain weight of all children aged 17 and under. Ensure rooms are cleaned after every patient, then stocked and prepped for the next patient. Under the supervision of an

RN or LPN:

Draw blood for lab tests, Perform straight catheterization or insertion of foley catheter, Apply simple splints (moon boots, wrist splints, finger splints, slings, etc.) Assist ED provider with suturing/splinting. Perform wound cleaning Application of dressings Prints EKGs, telemetry strips, vital signs for the chart Responsibilities and Duties - Observation/Outpatient Unit Assists in preparation of unit, patient rooms, and beds for receiving a patient from Admissions and/or the Emergency Department; Assists with transfers and discharges patients. Provides general nursing care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, ambulating patients, applying special equipment, assisting with toileting, and completing personal hygiene (bathing, washing hair, brushing teeth/dentures, peri-care, etc.). Sets up telemetry unit as ordered and enters appropriate patient information on central monitor, prints telemetry strips as needed/directed.

Education:

Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-year experience in clinical practice (preferred). Must have common knowledge of parameters of normal vital signs and safety for patient care.

Other:

Follows nursing care and all related activities in ER/Observation according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and SCK Health. Able to communicate with other employees, administration, physicians, and customers. Valid driver's license. Reliable transportation. Must be able to work with patients of all age groups.

Working Conditions:

Job responsibilities require working under constant exposure to noise, lighting, and/or temperature levels. Exposure to irritating, unpleasant, or hazardous elements or conditions (i.e. blood, chemicals, and infectious diseases) is constant. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, emergency/crisis situations. Subject to irregular hours (evening, night/weekend/holidays). Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
