Overview Dean Tech seeks a dedicated and experienced professional to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) team as our second Health Assisting Instructor. This role is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education that integrates the health assisting frameworks. The program aims to prepare students for various healthcare roles by covering a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills. We seek an educator who can inspire and prepare students for a wide range of career paths in the healthcare field.
Responsibilities Curriculum Development & Instruction:
Teach and integrate the Massachusetts Health Assisting Frameworks and curriculum. Develop and implement lesson plans that include:
Safety and Health Standards:
Infection control, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and workplace ergonomics.
Basic Nursing Skills:
Measuring vital signs, patient hygiene, and basic patient care procedures.
Medical Office Skills:
Electronic medical records management, appointment scheduling, and patient intake processes.
Clinical Skills:
Administering medications, assisting with diagnostic tests, and understanding human body systems.
Patient Communication:
Professional communication techniques, patient interview skills, and cultural competency in healthcare.
Emergency Response:
Basic life support (CPR), first aid, and handling medical emergencies.
Student Engagement & Mentorship:
Evaluate student performance through practical exams, written tests, and project-based assessments. Mentor students on the importance of continuing education and career opportunities in healthcare, including pathways to roles such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, and other healthcare positions. Guide students in understanding ethical and professional standards in healthcare.
Classroom & Lab Management:
Manage the classroom and laboratory environments to ensure a safe and effective learning space. Maintain and supervise the use of medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they meet industry standards. Implement and oversee safety protocols and procedures.
Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with the CTE Director, co-op coordinators, and local healthcare providers to offer students practical learning experiences and work-based learning opportunities. Communicate with parents, school counselors, and healthcare professionals regarding student progress and opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications Licensure & Experience:
Current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure in Health Assisting required. Candidates who do not have this license are still welcome to apply. A minimum of five years of recent, full-time experience in a healthcare setting such as a hospital, clinic, or nursing home is preferred but not required. Experience in both clinical practice and educational settings is highly desirable but not required.
Education:
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, Health Sciences, or a related field is required.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency in using digital tools and educational technology to enhance the learning experience. Ability to interpret and apply student performance data to tailor instructional strategies.
Desirable Attributes:
Experience working in an urban educational setting. Bilingual (Spanish) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
