MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Incumbent must have successfully completed a post-high school sonography program. Experience
• A minimum one year (1) of relevant work experience preferred. Must be able to proficiently and competently perform general sonography exams as well as echocardiograms. Licenses & Certification
• ARRT (preferred), Must be registered in one of the following RDMS, RVT, RDCS and/or RCS, must be competent to perform both general diagnostic ultrasound exams as well as diagnostic cardiac echocardiograms. Must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Knowledge & Skills
• Knowledge of Ultrasound Physics Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, cardiac anatomy, and pathology Knowledge of methods, techniques, and quality control required for processing digital images with optimal results.

Skills in obtaining adequate diagnostic ultrasound results on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring techniques which deviate from normal. Ability to perform ultrasound examinations in a variety of conditions, such as emergency trauma and have the ability to manage patient care in trauma/high stress situations. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively to patients, other staff, physicians, and the general public Knowledge and skill to establish and modify standard procedures, conduct analysis and evaluation, identify problems and be self-motivated to resolve problems independently. Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames Knowledge of common business, medical electronic health record and picture archiving, communication system (PACS) software applications and preliminary report generation.

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the position is to aid the Radiologist in performing specific diagnostic ultrasound examinations and echocardiogram examinations, as well as assist fellow technologists, as described in the Radiology Department's Policies and Procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in hospital and clinic environments. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbents must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires long periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and positioning patients. Ability to lift 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties. Incumbent will also have to cope with frequent changes in a stressful environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following: Produce diagnostic ultrasound images and recordings of anatomy and pathology using ultrasound equipment to aid radiologist and/or cardiologist in the diagnosis of disease process. Selection of appropriate equipment, transducer, and proper equipment adjustment to produce diagnostic ultrasound examinations Responsible for the proper identification of patients, including correct medical record number and proper identification of all ultrasound images. Review each ultrasound request to determine necessary images needed for the completion of the exam, enter appropriate test data, history, and patient information and be able to discuss images to aid in interpretation by radiologist and/or cardiologist. Responsible for completing examinations and successfully storing images to PACS system and report generation. Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and equipment assigned. Performs required duties in technologist work area and office as needed. Responsible for maintaining professional licensure and continuing education requirements, reviewing current technical literature, and evaluating new procedures and techniques for the purpose of recommending them to the Director of Radiology. Provide technical support to staff members and physicians and assist with troubleshooting and basic inquiries involved in the daily operation of computers and ultrasound equipment.
