The Clinic Health Technician is responsible for the clinical and clerical functions of patient care in order to promote timely and efficient patient care. The Health Technician (HT) provides a "seamless" process for patients and is supervised by the Nurse Manager in the Outpatient Clinic. The incumbent directs patient flow through the clinic, from check in to check out.

Individual Occupational Requirements:

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience:

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience in phlebotomy. Using of a wide variety of intravenous devices, e.g. syringe technique. Understanding of medical terminology. Recognizing urgent/emergent situations. Managing scheduling, medical data, patient movement. Communicating medical information to appropriate team member. Entering medical information into computerized patient record system. Checking patients in for appointments. Providing information to patients, their families and the public. Maintaining the medical record.

OR, Education:

Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.

OR, Combination:

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the second year. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements.

Preferred Experience:

Primary Care experience, Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) experience and Cerner Millennium experience.
