The Lead Clinician provides clinical skill development to clinicians and interdisciplinary staff working with high-acuity behavioral health clients. The role focuses on strengthening overall clinical quality, developing and supporting crisis intervention skills, assist clinicians in documentation timeliness and quality, enhance staff competency while promoting recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care, and collaborating with the Program Manager to evaluate staff program performance and implement changes for enhance service delivery outcomes. The Lead Clinician does not provide formal administrative supervision, disciplinary action, unless specifically delegated by leadership.
Position Requirement:
Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling, Professional Clinical Counseling, Psychology or related field. Qualifies as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) by the Los County Department of Mental Health. Must be either currently Licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or meets the eligibility requirements with the BBS. Minimum of 3-4 years of clinical experience in behavioral health, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead role (preferred). Must be able to pass California State Department of Justice criminal background investigation, Live Scan and/or fingerprinting. Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices, ethical standards, and relevant regulations. Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills. Must have a valid California Driver's license and the availability of a vehicle with full coverage insurance. Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to effectively guide, support, and motivate a team of clinicians to ensure high-quality service delivery and foster a collaborative work environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications is required for effective documentation, communication, and collaboration. Strong clinical skills, ability to provide field support, mitigate crisis and promote clinical development in clinicians.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct weekly meetings with assigned Clinicians to review documentation including Assessments, Treatment Plans, progress notes, and other ancillary assessments to assess gaps in clinical standards, provide assistance with revisions where necessary, and provide training and support to ensure enhancement of clinical skills. Consult with clinicians and clinical teams as needed on high risk, high acuity clients to provide clinical recommendations and support to the treatment team. Prepare and conduct weekly meetings and case consultation with Program Manager/Program Director to share updates on staff regarding clinical development, barriers, training plans and reviewing 90 Day training tool for assigned staff. Assist clinicians and direct service staff in real time with conducting assessments, intervention planning, engagement strategies, and crisis response either by role modeling, training or supporting clinicians in the field. Assist clinicians in enhancing skills to manage psychotic clients, assess and treat clients with suicidal and homicidal ideation and/or grave disability, and asses and treat clients with co-occurring disorders, and difficult-to-engage clients. LACDMH LPS
training and obtain LPS designation after 6 months of hire and maintain current LPS designation. Provide field support during psychiatric emergencies and crisis situations. Assist with LPS evaluations, hospitalization coordination, CARE Court referrals, AOT referrals, and IMD coordination. Assist clinicians with training and support to ensure accurate LOCUS scoring, level-of-care determination, and medical necessity justification. Conduct training sessions during onboarding and orientation for direct service staff as assigned, as well as conduct ongoing training and refresher trainings to staff within the first 6 months of assigned staff's employment and ensure field competency development. Provide guidance and direction to clinicians to ensure continuity of care planning for hospitalized or institutionalized clients returning to the community. Conduct field-based screenings for potential FSP ICM clients to determine eligibility. Maintain productivity of 12 hours of billable service peer week through direct client services or crisis response and submit progress notes according to agency standards. Conduct weekly chart reviews for assigned staff and/or staff identified by Program Directors by utilizing the Agency Chart Review Tool and provide feedback to clinicians during weekly meetings. Represent the agency at internal and external meeting as assigned. Other administrative and clinical duties as assigned to support program needs.
Escalation & Role Delineation:
Staff should escalate clinical questions, intervention planning concerns, crisis support needs, engagement barriers, documentation coaching needs, and field-based challenges to the Lead Clinician. The Lead Clinician functions as a clinical consultation and support role rather than the primary operational supervisor.
Environment/Working Conditions:
Frequent exposure to field-based crisis situations and psychiatric emergencies. Regular travel to homes, shelters, hospitals, encampments, and community locations. Requires flexibility and responsiveness to urgent behavioral health needs. Daily collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and community providers. Daily Functions which may include exposure to client/family members from various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, with communicable diseases and some may be prone to violence. Position required driving, valid driver's license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of insurance is required and must be maintain throughout employment. $93,200.00 - $98,200.00 per year
