Job Summary Responsible to the Director of the Office of Healthcare Simulation for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Skills Lab (CSL), overseeing personnel within the department, overseeing Standardized Patients (SP), and assisting with internal and external customer relations and development. Assists with the collaboration of educational objectives for the office in application to the events and projects of the Office of Healthcare Simulation/Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities and perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Knowledge:
Must have knowledge of medical terminology and basic non-invasive diagnostic equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and ophthalmoscope/otoscope) as well as a general understanding of basic physical examination.
Skills:
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to speak publicly. Must be able to represent the Office of Medical Simulation and interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff, potential donors, and students.
Must have excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Must be able to assess situations and adapt to a highly dynamic environment and have the ability to manage multiple projects.
Must have excellent computer skills and the ability to use multiple computer programs as needed to accomplish essential job functions. Must be able to create and format documents in Word and Excel and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Must have a general knowledge of audio-video recording systems and a theoretical knowledge of medical simulators.
Must have experience and skill in management of individuals and teams with a collaborative leadership style.
Abilities:
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree required in Education, Nursing, Health, Behavioral Sciences, or closely related discipline, or commensurate work experience.
Experience:
2 years of administrative experience, with a minimum of 1 year in higher education, preferably in a standardized, simulated or virtual patient environment, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated leading/training ability required.
Preferred Qualifications Education:
Master's degree or enrollment in master's program preferred.
Experience or Training:
CAE system/Medical Simulation experience preferred.
Essential Job Duties Key Responsibilities In collaboration with the Director, oversees and develops human simulation protocols, training and evaluation of employees, and directly works with recruitment, training, and development of Standardized Patients. Maintains ongoing quality control levels including providing regular performance reviews of Standardized Patients, further training and guidance.
Key Responsibilities Creates, provides and maintains office documentation and analyses of personnel and office functions as requested by Director. Develops and maintains vital records for internal and external requirements.
Key Responsibilities In collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director oversees the planning and administration of educational activities, case development, assessment activities and communications for the Office of Healthcare Simulation.
Key Responsibilities Actively collaborates with the Director, Simulation Operations, Standardized Patient Educators, recruiter, and Administrative Assistant both identifying and resolving needs regarding calendar, space, resources, and logistics to ensure a well-run program.
Key Responsibilities Manages and directs healthcare simulation programs of human simulation for Western University of Health Sciences and outside constituents in collaboration with the Director, Simulation Operations, and all program staff to meet accreditation standards and to maintain a high-quality program that meets the educational requirements of WesternU and its constituents. This includes monitoring assessments and testing events for both quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities Ensures human simulation is high-quality, evidence-based, engaging, effective, promotes realism to meet learning objectives, and oversees a process of ongoing professional development and competence of the Office of Healthcare Simulation staff.
Key Responsibilities Develops methodology, training, and administers SP-based simulation in collaboration with simulation educators, faculty and healthcare professionals both within WesternU and with professional organizations such as ASPE and SSH.
Key Responsibilities Supports Director with budgeting, annual evaluations, and other duties as assigned.
Posting Details Continued Work Schedule 40 hours per week, regular business hours. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
