This role assists with staff supervision, program operations, licensing compliance, family communication, and day-to-day site management while providing direct support within the classroom and program environment. The Site Coordinator helps maintain compliance with YMCA policies and Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) requirements and supports a positive culture for children, families, and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all interactions with children, families, staff, and community members. Assist with the daily operation of childcare programs, including staffing support, scheduling, enrollment communication, and classroom coverage. Support the supervision, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of childcare staff. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate program environment. Ensure compliance with all OEC licensing regulations, YMCA policies, child abuse prevention standards, and health and safety procedures, including mandated reporting requirements. Maintain active supervision of children and provide direct classroom support as needed, including filling in for classroom staff when necessary. Support curriculum implementation and program activities that promote children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Communicate professionally and proactively with families, staff, and program participants to support a positive YMCA experience. Complete and maintain required documentation, including attendance, incident reports, staff records, and program files. Participate in required meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development activities. Must meet Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) requirements for a Head Teacher in a school-age childcare program, including required education/coursework and documented supervised experience. Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, recreation, or a related field preferred. Minimum 2 years of childcare experience, including staff leadership or supervisory responsibilities preferred. Strong knowledge of child development, program management, supervision, behavior guidance, and licensing compliance. Ability to coach and support staff, communicate effectively with families, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies. Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification required within six (6) months of hire. Must complete all required YMCA and OEC trainings, including health and safety requirements, and maintain ongoing professional development in accordance with OEC licensing requirements. Must complete OEC background check and fingerprinting within 30 days of hire. Must provide documentation of physical exam and TB test at hire and every two years thereafter.
