SUMMARY The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the rehabilitation nursing units at Gaylord Hospital. This role provides operational and clinical leadership and promotes high-quality, patient-centered care. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient experience, staff engagement, and operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership Supports daily operations of rehabilitation nursing units Assists Nurse Manager with staffing coordination and workflow oversight Provides frontline leadership and acts as a clinical resource Monitors patient flow and throughput Addresses operational issues and escalates when appropriate Assists with implementation of unit-based initiatives and process improvement Patient Experience & Service Recovery Conducts proactive patient and family rounding Addresses patient and family concerns in real time Performs service recovery and follows up on identified issues Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to improve patient experience Monitors trends and communicates opportunities for improvement Quality & Regulatory Compliance Performs quality audits on a routine and as-required basis Monitors adherence to policies, procedures, and standards Participates in performance improvement initiatives Supports regulatory readiness and compliance activities Promotes a culture of safety and accountability Staff Supervision & Development Provides direct oversight of PCTs and MTs Participates in interviewing and hiring of staff Assists with onboarding of new employees Coordinates orientation schedules Assigns and supports preceptors Monitors orientation progression and competency completion Provides coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback Supports staff engagement and retention initiatives

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct supervision of Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and Monitor Technicians (MTs) on the rehab units. Provides oversight of assigned staff, including coaching, onboarding, orientation coordination, and performance feedback. Assists Nurse Manager with staff development and engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience required. Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut (adjust if needed) BLS certification required Leadership certification preferred (optional) Rehabilitation nursing experience preferred. CRRN certification preferred Prior leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory experience preferred
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work flexible hours to meet operational needs Participation in committees and leadership meetings as assigned Acts in Nurse Manager role in their absence
WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours/week, Day shift (7:00am-3:30pm) Gaylord nursing units offer a variety of skills such as:
Milne Units:
Step down/progressive care unit of level of care includes: Continuous telemetry monitoring Ventilator support and weaning LVAD patient population Heart Transplant population Lyman 1 & Hooker 1: Medical Units offer skills such as: Stroke Complex wounds Telemetry Pulmonary care Lyman 2 & Hooker 2: Specialty Units are CARF Accredited with a focused patient population: Traumatic Brain Injury Stroke Spinal cord Injury
