Director of Surgical Services (RN) SHR Talent is partnering with a healthcare client in Panama City, FL in its search for a Director of Surgical Services (RN). This is a permanent, full-time leadership opportunity overseeing Surgical Services for a 280+ bed acute care hospital. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across 12 operating rooms, 7 perioperative departments, and approximately 120 staff members . The Director of Surgical Services will oversee a broad perioperative service line that includes the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)/Recovery, Same Day Surgery, Central Sterile Services (CSS), Infusion Services, GI, and additional surgical operations. This leader will be responsible for clinical quality, patient safety, staffing, employee development, regulatory compliance, patient experience, budgeting, productivity, and overall operational performance while collaborating closely with physicians and hospital leadership. The ideal candidate is an experienced Surgical Services nursing leader with recent Director-level experience in an acute care hospital environment. This position requires a collaborative and results-driven leader who can manage a large multidisciplinary team, improve clinical and operational performance, strengthen employee engagement, and identify opportunities to expand and enhance surgical services.

Responsibilities:

Provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across Surgical Services, including 12 operating rooms and multiple perioperative departments, while overseeing approximately 120 staff members Lead nursing practice, staffing, scheduling, patient flow, productivity, resource utilization, and day-to-day department operations to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care Drive clinical quality and patient safety initiatives through evidence-based practices, performance monitoring, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and continuous process improvement Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing clinical teams while promoting accountability, employee engagement, professional development, and a collaborative culture Partner with physicians, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to enhance existing surgical services, identify opportunities for service-line growth, increase procedural volume, and support new program development Oversee departmental financial performance, including annual budgeting, labor management, staffing forecasts, productivity, operating expenses, supply utilization, equipment needs, and cost-reduction initiatives Monitor patient experience and clinical performance metrics while developing and implementing strategies to improve outcomes, efficiency, throughput, and patient satisfaction Develop and maintain policies, procedures, clinical standards, and operational processes in accordance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), MBA, or other applicable advanced degree preferred Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure appropriate for practice in Florida required Minimum of 2 years of recent Director of Surgical Services experience within an acute care hospital required Demonstrated leadership experience across Operating Room and perioperative services, with responsibility for clinical operations, staffing, quality, patient safety, and employee performance Experience overseeing multiple perioperative departments such as OR, PACU, Same Day Surgery, Sterile Processing/CSS, GI, Infusion Services, or related surgical areas strongly preferred Experience managing a large multidisciplinary team and complex surgical operations within an acute care hospital environment Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing standards, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, patient safety, quality improvement, patient throughput, and evidence-based clinical practices Demonstrated experience with departmental budgeting, labor and productivity management, staffing, supply utilization, expense management, and operational performance Strong leadership, communication, physician relations, critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and change-management skills #IND123
